Tina Gao's Chow

Wow, I can't believe Christmas is officially less than 2 weeks away! Time sure flies when you stay busy! Having snow on the ground definitely enhances the holiday spirit and it’s a telltale sign that Santa and his reindeer will be making their journey very soon. I hope your holiday season is filled with joy, laughter, reflection and of course, an insatiable appetite for chowlicious goodness!

I had the honor of being one of the media participants of The Home for Little Wanderers’ 5th Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Competition at Showcase SuperLux in Chestnut Hill (built into Newton’s swanky shopping spot, The Street). This year’s decorating competition had 11 ambitious teams and as awesome luck would have it, I was teamed up with Judy Rosenberg, owner of Rosie’s Bakery! Judy brought in a boatload of sweet confections (from rock candy to cookies galore) and all kinds of fun props specially for decorating our gingerbread house. I knew right away our team was in solid hands!

Lucky's Choice

Our theme was “Peace & Love” and I think our gingerbread house perfectly captured these sentiments. We even made a hot tub on the side of the gingerbread house and put a gingerbread man inside it!

We all remember the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel when they discovered a large cottage in the woods built of gingerbread and cakes, with window panes made of sugar. Being a lifelong foodie, this story obviously grabbed my attention! Decorating gingerbread houses is a favorite holiday tradition for many, but it’s something I haven't tried until this week. It was so much fun!

Our team won 1st place in the category of “Lucky’s Choice.” Lucky as in Lucky the Leprechaun, the mascot of the Boston Celtics!

This was truly a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to do it again.  As always, feel free to e-mail me with your questions and comments.

HAPPY DECORATING & CHOWING!

Tina
