They did it! The Boston Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks and have brought the Stanley Cup back to Boston. It's been a long time coming. Thirty-nine years to be exact. And it's great to see generations of fans so excited. The crowds here in Boston were out in the streets celebrating, and a few here and there tried to tip a few vehicles over. But for the most part, they were pretty well behaved.
In Vancouver, however, the situation was far worse. A riot occurred with fires, fights, looting and plenty of property damage. Police had to use tear gas and pepper spray to disperse the crowd. Granted their team lost the championship, but why is it that some people become so destructive after a game? It can happen after a victory just as easily as a loss and I've never understood that. I don't see the need to light fires, bang on cars and swing from light poles. But that's just me.
So hats off to the fans here in Boston for keeping your heads and celebrating without tearing the city apart. Let's have a parade!
