Willam and Kate Won Me Over!
Posted 4/29/2011 11:14:00 AM
The “Royal Wedding” has occurred, Prince William married his long time love, and from the looks of it, his best friend, Katherine Middleton. I was among the many that felt rather indifferent about the wedding. Mostly because, well, you remember, the marriage between William's mother and father didn't work out so well. In fact it was tragic. So when I woke up Friday morning and turned on the TV, I didn’t expect to be drawn in to the spectacle. But guess what? I was, and I think it was because I noticed that this couple, William and Kate, looked so relaxed and most importantly, so happy. Kate's gown was simple and yet elegant. Her hair and makeup were stunning, but not overstated. The kisses on the balcony at Buckingham Palace were beautiful and sincere. But what really won me over was a surprise moment hours after the ceremony, when the couple emerged from Grandmother's house, the palace of Queen Elizabeth of course. They drove themselves to Clarence house for a reception,William in the driver's seat, Kate next to him, in a convertible, top down, with a “Just Married” plate and balloons dangling from the back of the car (using beer cans would have been a little tacky I'm sure). This gesture was so beautiful, and, to me, showed the kind of people this couple want to be: warm, accessible, and fun. A truly modern couple. I think Williams mother, Princess Diana , would have loved this. Best wishes to the bride and groom!
