Drive Safely!

We're getting down to the wire, the last week before Christmas. That means a lot of people are on the road, with their minds on a lot of other things besides driving. Have you noticed? It's scary out there, the speeding, the weaving in and out, the last minute lane changes. I've been cut off more times than I can count. And the impatience runs rampant. I guess some folks are anxious to get to that 50 percent off sale! I think it finally got to me last night while I was at a light in a very busy intersection, waiting to take a left. The pickup truck behind me wanted to go straight, so he kept honking his horn at me, clearly annoyed that I was in his way as I waited for a safe moment to turn. Keep in mind that traffic coming in the opposite direction wasn't letting up, there was nothing I could do. It was at that moment that I made the decision to not be mad at the guy behind me. In fact I began to feel sorry for him(or her, not sure just who was in that pickup). I thought, someone with so much impatience and anxiety must have a lot of sadness and anger in their own lives. I eventually made my left turn and the truck sped off . As I continued driving, though, I promised myself that I would make an effort to drive as carefully and as courteously as possible for the rest of the holiday season. I would remember it for the future, too. You know, if more of us did that, then maybe more people would be able to enjoy a safe and happy holiday, and new year. What do you say?
