Thank You For Being a Friend

I had a great time last night. I spent the evening with an amazing group of women. They are the moms of some of Jarrod's high school friends and classmates. We've known each other for quite a long time. We've volunteered together, we've watched many a concert and play, and we've done our share of chauffeuring. Now our kids are off at college. So we met to put together care packages for our sons and daughters. While that was the primary reason for getting together, truth is we needed to connect with each other again. It's been a strange couple of months for all of us, and I know that we have missed the activities that brought us together through the years: the musicals, the open houses, the fundraisers, the play dates. Then again, it's possible that we needed to see each other in order to come to terms with the fact that our lives will never be the same, and to be reassured that we are not alone as we go through the process of letting our children grow and go. That may be true, but that's not the whole story. Last night was a reminder that I have had the privilege of knowing some of the finest women you could ever meet: kind, generous, supportive, bright and funny. We are not just the moms of these kids that went to school together. We are friends. Now it's likely that as time goes on, we will see each other less often.  But one thing is certain. I will never forget these wonderful friends. They will remain in my heart always.
