What Would You Do?

I have a question for you. When you are having dinner at a restaurant, how long do you stay at your table after you have finished dinner? I ask this because recently, Roger and I were having dinner at a restaurant at Patriot Place. When we were finished and had payed the bill, we noticed that there were a lot of people still waiting to be seated. So, our thought was to get up and bring our unfinished drinks to the bar area so that others could be seated. We felt good about this because we all know that there is nothing worse than waiting for a table and seeing customers sitting at a table well after they have paid the bill. I just think it's common courtesy to get up when you're finished, especially on a very busy evening. Which brings me to this past Saturday night, this time at a restaurant at Legacy Place. The wait was 1 ½ to 2 hours. We were waiting in the bar area close to a table of two young women who had paid their bill and then proceeded to remain at the table for another hour and a half! They clearly had to see that there was a significant wait, yet they chose to take up a table that could have been used to seat two new customers, which also would have meant another tip for the waitress. Frankly, I'm surprised that the establishment didn't say something to them. And I know for a fact that these two ladies didn't care that they were taking up the table, I heard one of them say that! You know, it doesn't bother me to wait for a table, I expect that on a Saturday night. What bothers me most is that there are people who just don't care. But I can tell you this, when we were finally seated, we had our dinner, paid the bill and gave up the table. It was the right thing to do.
