Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

Hope you had a nice Columbus day weekend, we certainly had decent weather. I'm pretty sure we did all of those autumn things I mentioned in a previous blog, and then some! Of course the highlight was having Jarrod home for a couple of days. He arrived Friday night, with laundry of course, on the David O'Leary express(yes, THAT David O'Leary from Magic106.7, our sons go to the same school!). We had a wonderful time having him home. It felt as if we had been transported back one year, although I doubt that feeling was mutual for Jarrod. His life has changed dramatically; new town, new room, new friends, new classes, new experiences, how can that not change you? So while I know he loved seeing us and being with us, I knew he was looking forward to getting back to this new life he is in the process of carving out. Roger and I remind ourselves not to take any of this personally, Jarrod is right where he should be, ready to embrace his future as an adult. I know he loved having some at home time, and we were grateful to have that time with him, but we realize he is on the journey of a lifetime and must embrace it wholeheartedly. So last night, there we were dropping him off at his dorm along with clean laundry, some snack essentials and a TV. And who should be waiting for him with open arms but his new found friends ready to take him to the dining hall for dinner. Cue the goodbyes, time for mom and dad to go, and that's OK. It's all good. He is exactly where he should be. I cried all the way home.
