The One Where Nancy Heads to Hollywood

I'm back! A little jet-lagged, but it was all worth taking the trip out to sunny California. LA to be exact. Jarrod had never been to the West Coast, so we thought it would be fun to go there before he headed off to college this fall. We did a lot, and maybe packed too much into a week. But looking back, I'm glad we did all of it! Here are a few highlights, just in case you get out there any time soon: Mulholland Drive. Great views of the valley and city below, but beware, it's a winding road with peaks and valleys that can make you dizzy! Universal Studios. It has a different feel than the Orlando theme park, but it's just as fun. Warner Brothers Studio tour. Such rich history in this back lot tour. The Central Perk Coffee House set from Friends is still there. We all had the opportunity to walk around the set, very surreal. Even more surreal was passing by Adam Baldwin from the TV show Chuck who was driving by in a pickup truck.. He said hello, we said hello. Very cool. OK, now Venice Beach. Walking along the boardwalk here is the strangest experience you may ever have. There are characters galore, old hippies, families, couples, Muscle Beach where “Ah-nold” used to work out, souvenir shops and places that sell “Medicinal”, which evidently is legal there with a doctor's note..crazy! A few more places to visit, Santa Monica Pier, just beautiful, Newport Beach, Long Beach, Hollywood, and finally, one of the most spectacular places of all, the Getty Center. This series of buildings perched high on a hill, designed by the architect Richard Meier, house a collection of art and artifacts beyond compare. The structures and gardens are beautiful, the artwork is amazing, the view is spectacular and it's all free! What a vacation. Now, if only they'd open an In -N-Out Burger here!
