My Sweet Escape

Another amazing weekend – this time it was off to the Cape, the first time this summer! There's nothing like feeling the warmth of the sun, the sand between your toes and breathing in the salty air. It's downright therapeutic. Do you have a place that you like to visit, the kind that brings you peace of mind and relaxation? For me, it's our little family cottage on Cape Cod that sits on a sand dune and overlooks Cape Cod Bay. The cottage was originally a tiny shack that sat in the middle of the woods near my parents' home in Raynham. My dad had it brought to the Cape on a flat bed truck around 1960, and placed on top of the dune. From that moment on, and with the help of neighbors and friends, he would add to it; a deck here, a room there, a larger living area. Pieced together, but with so much charm, it's a place filled with loving memories and decades of collected, mostly nautically themed, mementos. This is my sweet escape, and admittedly I don't get a chance to visit as often as I'd like. But when I'm there, I can feel myself unwind and become rejuvenated. All I need to see is that beautiful blue ocean, hear the waves crash along the shore and I'm ready to carry on!
