Weekends can be like mini vacations

What a weekend! It may have been hot, but it was great. Jarrod went on a camping trip to the White Mountains with his friends, so Roger and I decided to make our weekend like a mini vacation. It proves you don't need to travel to a far off destination in order to have some fun. So what did we do? Well, Friday evening we met up with some good friends and took in Toy Story 3. Now before you even raise your eyebrows at that, the reason we went is because we all have sons and daughters going off to college this fall. The premise of this latest Toy Story is that Andy, the owner of the toys, is getting ready to leave for college. The movie is just as enjoyable as the previous installments and the familiar voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and the gang make the characters “come alive”, so to speak. However, the story's ending is what will bring a tear to the eye of anyone leaving home or anyone with children leaving home.
On to part two of our weekend.. On Saturday night, we went to Providence to have dinner and to see their Waterfire. If you haven't been to a waterfire, it's a must see event to experience at least once during the summer. One hundred bonfires are lit along the rivers that pass through downtown Providence and it is breathtaking, not to mention romantic. For the schedule, visit
On Sunday we went to the Great American Car Show at the Transportation Museum at Larz Anderson Park. OK, you're starting to raise your eyebrows again..could Nancy be into classic American cars? Let's just say I have a great appreciation for them, but this is really Roger's passion. Give him a '65 Mustang convertible any day! Just give me a Coolatta after being out in the hot sun all day and I'm happy to look at vintage Mustangs, Corvettes and Buicks.
Finally, Sunday night we grilled out and enjoyed some time on our deck. Jarrod came home with stories of the White Mountains and jumping off an old bridge into the river below, which brought me right back to reality with the reminder that I'm still a parent..”You did what?!” Still, this weekend was a sweet escape, I highly recommend it, and can't wait to do it again soon!

That definitley sound like a great weekend. I love bonfires. A weekend getaway always sounds great. I may be going to Main next weekend for two days with my boyfriend. I love to dine out.
