4th of July weekend, time for some fun!

Fourth of July weekend..YES!! And the weather is good this year. That means barbecues and fireworks displays will go on without a hitch. And the beach will be amazing, just don't forget the sunscreen! I'm so looking forward to the three day weekend. There's nothing like that feeling you get on the Sunday night of a long weekend and knowing you have another day off to have some fun. So what's on your agenda? Lots to do in town. Boston is hosting Harborfest with all kinds of activities including, of course, the Boston Pops on the esplanade. The 1812 Overture still gives me goosebumps! I've always loved the excitement that the 4th of July brings. I remember when I was little, my family would attend the band concert and fireworks celebration on the banks of a beautiful pond in the center of Sandwich on the Cape. The community band would play and every year they would feature a snare drum solo performed by an older gentleman who had to be well in his 90's (at least that's how it appeared to a small child). I'll tell you something, he could drum! Fast, too, and with rhythmic precision. All the while canoes and rowboats, decorated with lighted colored lanterns, would parade along the banks of the pond. Then, the much anticipated fireworks display, so spectacular, maybe too spectacular, that on a few occasions my dad would have to carry me back to our car before the finale. I would bury my face in my dad's shoulder to drown out the thunderous booms. I loved that. Just me and my dad..what a beautiful memory. Bring on the Fourth!
