What is he singing about?

Hi everyone! Hope this past father's day weekend was a good one for you. We managed to have a barbecue in between storms, so it was all good. No hail on the steak tips! I wanted to pass along part of an e-mail I received after last week's blog where I invited you to tell me what your favorite song was, the one you never tire of when you hear it. I received an e-mail from Ronald Clark, who says “hands down”, the most enduring song for him is What a Fool Believes by the Doobie Brothers. Here's what Ronald had to say: “You hear the piano intro, your mood changes and you clear your throat to sing along. This in spite of the fact that Michael McDonald's vocal style is so... er... 'distinct' you don't know what the hell he's singing. So you make up your own lyrics and sing along in his voice, which I think is defined as 'Mezzo Husky'.” I couldn't agree more! I've never known the exact lyrics to that song, although Ronald points out this is why we have Google. And Ronald goes on to say that in spite of the rather dark lyrics, the melody is a happy, bouncy one..that has kept us humming along for all these years. So I want to hear from you. Tell me what song has that lasting effect on you!
