Burgers and a bit of history

I was thinking about what I would write about in this little blog. I decided it was the perfect time to wish you all a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and also to reflect on the day we are observing. Whether you're traveling to the beach, visiting friends, attending a wedding (there are a number of those going on this weekend), or if you're staying home, barbecuing, hosting a graduation party (that's on our agenda), this is a long weekend to enjoy! How often do you get one that serves up great weather? It's a nice way to “unofficially” begin the summer season! Of course Memorial Day is also a time to remember those we have lost. Did you know it was originally called Decoration Day? It was established to honor the soldiers of the Civil War. We have been honoring our fallen soldiers in some form or another since 1868. Eventually the name was changed to Memorial Day. The US government made it a federal holiday in 1971. These days, we take the time to include our civilian loved ones, in addition to the brave men and women of the military who have left us, when we visit their cemeteries and other places of rest. Well, there's your very short history lesson for today. But now, it's time to enjoy these last days of May. I hope you do, and, be sure to make Magic 106.7 the soundtrack to your long holiday weekend!
