The wonders of technology never cease to amaze me. Last week while Texan Vince Hunter was on vacation in Connecticut, he was able to see his Dallas house being broken into from 1,500 miles away via an iPhone application called iCam. Hunter's home security webcams showed him in real time as two burglars broke the windows of his home and rifled through his backyard. Hunter phoned the cops, but the thieves had already been deterred by their alarm system. Unfortunately, they'd already robbed Hunter's next-door neighbor. So, if you are going away for Labor Day weekend and leaving an empty house, maybe it's worth downloading this handy app to your mobile phone. For a grand total of five bucks, you can watch live video footage from anywhere in the world. Or, if you are willing to spend a bit more, you can get a WiFi security camera in your home that links to your mobile phone. The only drawback is that motion detectors can be set off by 'false positives' caused by Toto or Garfield frolicking around the house. However cute she may be, I'm not sure I'd want a moment of quiet contemplation by the sea interrupted to watch Toto play with her chew toy.
