It Hurts More When It Happens To You!

Let me just say that it always hurts a lot more when it actually happens to you…I’ll explain. A few weeks ago, Nancy Quill wrote in her blog about being stung by a yellow jacket and her futile attempt to annihilate them. My words to her were,“Gee, that’s too bad. I hear that those suckers can really sting”. End of conversation. Well, last weekend while mowing the lawn, I apparently disturbed an underground nest and was attacked by a massive swarm of yellow jackets! Ok, maybe it wasn’t a massive swarm, but it was big enough that I was stung at least 7 times. Three of those stings were on my face, another couple on my arm and one on my leg. Who knew that yellow jackets also make their nests in soil cavities and not just in trees, shrubs and protected areas. Two doctor visits, a couple of prescriptions, multiple ice packs and assorted sticky sprays later, I have become somewhat of a yellow jacket expert. I can now tell you first hand that those suckers can REALLY sting…. but it will hurt even more when it happens to you!!!
