Doggie danger

It was a beautiful day as I ambled down the driveway to collect the mail. The sun was shining, spring was in the air, the tiny heads of bulbs were starting to push their way through the soil. It was the perfect time to take the Penzinator for a stroll around the neighborhood. The moment I got out the leash, Penzi started her routine – whining, barking, and dancing on her hind legs. I should loan her out to the circus. There is nothing she likes more than walking with her nose attached to the ground, surveying the various scents of lawns, mailboxes and flowerbeds.
I had a quick glance at the mail – an array of mail order catalogs, some unwanted bills and then a small leaflet from the ASPCA Poison Control Center with a picture of some grass covered by a skull and crossbones. I had a closer look. It warned that the seductive emerald grass lining the streets of suburban neighborhoods could actually be full of pesticides, fertilizers and weed killers as spring drew near. And not only that, but those innocent flower bulbs like daffodils or tulips could give a dog serious stomach troubles.
I put Penzi on the leash and we walked along the sidewalk. We still enjoyed the sunshine, but kept away from those potentially deadly lawns and flowerbeds. Although the manicured lawns looked neat and tidy, I guess they are just for show. From the amount Penzi was straining at her leash, I'm guessing she simply doesn't agree!

Thanks for the reminder, I love this time of year out walking with my dog who also has her nose to the ground! And I forget sometimes about those pesticides that can hurt her! So much appreciated for the reminder!
