In February 2012 Gay Vernon decided to "hang up her earphones" after more than twenty years on MAGIC. Gay was a fixture on morning radio since Ronald Reagan was President(first term). In fall 1991, Gay became the News Director of MAGIC 106.7 and was a key ingredient in the ratings success of MORNING MAGIC. Gay was the producer of the weekly Public Affairs program BOSTON LIFE, with guests ranging from local soup kitchen operators to President Barack Obama. She was also the co-host of MAGIC 106.7's award-winning program, EXCEPTIONAL WOMEN, which has won 18 Gracie Allen Awards (a national record). Over the past twenty years, she interviewed women who have made headlines, such as former First Ladies Laura Bush and Rosalynn Carter, Lesley Stahl, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Leslie Caron, Lily Tomlin, Eartha Kitt, and Judy Collins.

Gay's father, Mickey Vernon, was a former Red Sox 1st baseman and two-time American League batting champion.
