Couldn't Believe It!

Posted 5/18/2012 5:48:00 PM

I couldn't believe last night on American Idol that Joshua Ledet went home! Seriously, it shouldn't have happened. When you get down to the nitty gritty and the cream of the crop though this is what seems to happen. The little teeny bopper girls start voting for who is the cutest. This time Phillip Phillips was I guess.(who names their kid Phillip Phillips).

The talent on the show this season has been absolutely outstanding. I mean all three of the remaining contestants could put an album out today. From the beginning, when I first heard and saw Jessica Sanchez, I thought she would win Idol hands down. Then Joshua came on strong. He is such a throw back to that R & B that is missing so greatly from the music scene today. I can't wait for his first album to hopefully help fill the void in that genre.

Jessica should win this ...

I love it when YOU have the chance to take the family to the most magical place on earth. I'm talking about our contest for you to win a Walt Disney World Resort vacation. I went down there a few days ago to shoot a bunch of videos that you'll check out at Magic1067.com every weekday for the next two weeks. Just keep a list of my new location every day and you'll be in good shape for a shot at your very own  piece of the magic.

If you've been to Disney World you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't had the opportunity yet, you'll love it. It is without a doubt the most magical place on earth, not just for the kids but for us adults too. I just love it! I feel very fortunate to be able to go there every year to check out what's new and to be ...

I can't believe Fenway Park is celebrating it's 100th year anniversary tomorrow. The Sox are going to play the Yankees, just like they did 100 years ago, except the Yankees were the Highlanders then. Both teams will be in their 1912 uniforms which will be cool and funny at the same time.

My son and I were at Fenway Sunday for the game and I must say the old ball park looks terrific! Red Sox ownership has done even more updates and renovations. Fenway as they say is America's most beloved ball park. When people come to Boston, Fenway is always a must see. Even though some of the seats are small with out a lot of leg room, and some don't even face directly straight ahead to the field, one thing Fenway has is character.

To this day I can still remember vividly in detail the first time I walked up ...

Do You Remember?

Posted 4/2/2012 7:34:00 PM

Do you remember when you would listen to the radio years ago and you'd hear your favorite songs? You would also hear that voice, that personality of your favorite disc jockey. They would seem larger than life.

This was all before you had any idea what face that voice on the radio came with. Since the years of the internet and radio station websites, you can find out what your favorite, or any radio personality looks like with the click of a mouse. The reason I bring this up is because I've always wondered how you the listener felt about that.

Did you like the mystery of not knowing what your best radio jock looked like. I know I would always try to picture in my mind what color hair they had, or how tall they were, or if they were slender or husky etc... Do you enjoy putting the face ...

Just a Tease...

Posted 3/21/2012 3:42:00 PM

You do realize that this incredible record breaking weather is just a tease right? Mother nature has a way of playing with us New Englanders quite often. This is what makes us so hearty.

The unseasonably warm temperatures not only play with us, but it fools the early spring flowers and the bugs. I was taking a walk today and saw a big black ant crossing my path. I said "big fella are you going to be in for a shocker".

It'll get cool again, and the heat may even have to go back on for a night here and there before the actual benefits of the spring season fully arrive, but I have to tell you...this is terrific. It adjusts everyone's mood instantly and makes for an all around better day for evryone. If this is how mother nature teases, you can tease me all you want baby!

No Thanks........

This is going to be short and sweet....even though I have a lot of Irish in me, I just have never been able to wrap my mouth around a boiled dinner. You know....corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, the works.

I like beer, I just don't want any green food coloring in it. I'm a very visual guy, so when I see the green in my mug, I don't know, I guess I just get psyched out about the color.

I do love Irish music, especially Danny Boy,(wonder why) and the parade in Southie! I love that so many seem to be in such a great mood on St Patrick's day, and that everyone is Irish. But if you offer me a boiled dinner or a mug of green beer...I'm just going to say, "no thanks!" I truly hope you had a terrific St. Patricks day!

Ahhh More Light!!!!

Posted 3/9/2012 7:43:00 PM

So let me ask you...how do you feel about a longer day, a later sunset, that feel of spring in the air? Yeah me too! It's the best. It's just what the doctor ordered right? No matter the type of winter...a lot of snow, or like this winter, hardly any, it just feels so good when the days get longer and the air starts ever so slowly to warm up. We always need it.

We had a couple of days this week in the 60's, and actually broke a record with a 68 on Thursday. Now I realize we are not out of the woods yet with the cold, but I have to tell you, this extra hour of daylight we're about to get dropped in our laps Saturday night into Sunday morning is going to be fabuloso!

So here's to spring being around the corner. The Sox are playing their ...

No Place Like Home!

Posted 2/28/2012 5:50:00 PM

I was in the big apple all last week with the fam. We wanted to do something a bit different than what we normally do this time of year, which is jet off to a tropical island for that elusive glow from Mr Sun.

I must say we did a ton of stuff, from the 9-11 Memorial to Broadway shows, to Central Park, Statue of Liberty, NBC tour, dinners, it never ended. It was actually exhausting, but very entertaining and fun. Walking around Manhattan, from downtown to midtown to uptown, you tend to get a real good lay of the land.

I kept thinking while in NYC how overwhelmingly humungus it was. You walk down a street and you can't even see the sun cause the buildings are so so tall. There are so many people, and these puppies are always moving real fast. It's like chickens with their heads cut off. It is ...

Whew...... for some reason Whitney's death has really got a hold of my thoughts. I'm sure a lot of it is because every time you turn on the TV, or listen to the radio you're either seeing or hearing Whitney. I find nothing wrong with this, but it does keep it extremely fresh in your mind. God bless her soul.

Last night in bed while trying to fall asleep I found my eyes tearing up as I thought about my own mortality. There's no doubt in my mind that Whitney's death has brought this to the top of my thoughts. I was thinking as I lay there...I don't want to go. I don't want to miss so many things in this life. I believe in God and heaven, but I guess I'm just scared. Most of us have no idea what our expiration dates are. All I know is I want ...

Don't Buy the Hype!

Posted 2/12/2012 12:10:00 PM

I'm as romantic as the next guy if not more so, but as the years have gone by, I've come to learn that Valentine's Day is just another way for flower companies, candy companies, jewelry stores and card companies to make money.

I'm not a bah humbug, down on romance guy. I'm just a man who believes in having so called "Valentines Day" more than on February 14th every year. I like to have many, many days all about love through out the year. I like to give my wife roses for no reason at all. I call them "just because" roses. I like to take my wife out to dinner" just because."

I don't need Valentine's Day and the jacked up prices on flowers etc to make me feel like I'm romantic. What about someone who doesn't have someone to love them, or to love someone romantically. Do you realize how much these ...

High Five!!!

Posted 2/3/2012 5:05:00 PM

It's all been talked and hyped to death these past two weeks leading up to the Superbowl.  How many more news clips about Gronk's ankle can we see?  The Superbowl is always fun, but I don't have to tell you how the level of excitement elevates to an all new height when our Patriots are in it!

I'm just as excited as you, if not more, about the big game.  But want to know what really makes me happy?  Being with family and friends watching the game TOGETHER.  The whole experience takes on the same feeling as a holiday.  It's huge.  How many times this week have you been asked,"So where are you watching the game?"  Or, "What are you having to eat at your party?"

No matter how you slice it, baby, this is a huge happening!  Being with my family and friends when the Pats score, jumping up and ...

My son, Austin, doesn't like me to talk about him on the air - unless I clear it with him first.  It's funny how this radio thing - and when I do television - doesn't phase him at all because it's all he's ever known.  Today, however, without clearance, I am blogging about my guy.

All through his young life he has always made me such a proud Papa.  He's respectful, he's kind and has a real good head on his shoulders.  I taught him at an early age how to give a good firm handshake, to look someone in the eye when you meet them and to always be respectful - especially to women.  I told him that book smarts are great, but without street smarts and common sense they mean nothing.  He has both.  Impresses me everyday.

I wish I could write all of the adjectives that are spinning around in my head right now when it comes to the Direct TV and Sunbeam Broadcasting situation that is happening in my house, and hopefully not in yours!  In case you're not familiar with what's going on, Sunbeam, which owns local affiliates Channel 7 and 56 here in Boston and a Fox station in Miami, is demanding more fees from Direct TV in order to let them broadcast their stations here in Boston. When I put on channel 7 or 56, guess what I see?  You got it, baby.  A big "nada!"  Goose egg.  Zilch.  A black screen that has a notice from Direct TV saying that they are negotiating with Sunbeam and these matters are usually sorted out quickly.

Quickly???  Are you kidding me?  I haven't had a picture since January 14th!!!  I couldn't watch The Golden Globe Awards ...

I wish everyone would just leave this poor dude, Tim Tebow, alone.  Just in case you're not a sports fan or have been in your cave for a while, Tim Tebow is the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, who the Patriots just so happen to be playing in a divisional playoff game tomorrow night at the razor (Gillette Stadium).

Just because this guy kneels and says a prayer during or after a game and thanks God, a ton of people seem to have a problem with that.  Why????  Who is this guy bothering?  Not me, and certainly not you or anyone else.  Now don't get me wrong, the Pats will wipe the floor with the Broncos, but stop talking about this poor guy.

I find nothing wrong with someone with high morals and who isn't ashamed to show his love for God.  God is on both Tim's and Tom's (Brady) side.  ...

I know this time of year we're all running around like chickens with their heads cut off, but I try to slow down and take it in stride with thankful thoughts in mind. As I go from store to store hoping to get those perfect gifts for under the tree Christmas morning, I think about people that don't have it so good.

I think about the person that is struggling without a job, or the person that's sick, or has a loved one in poor health. I think about that guy holding a cup that I just gave a few quarters to while I'm driving home, and how grateful he was. I think about someone whose alone. Yeah, alone on Christmas. It's unsettling to me, but it's life, unfortunately.

So I think about how I lucky I am. I thank God for my blessings, and I say a prayer for anyone who ...

Posted 12/9/2011 5:25:00 PM

Here we go again! It's Friday afternoon, December 9th and I'm having a debate in my own noggin whether or not to tackle the Christmas lights that go on all the bushes around my humble abode. It's always a daunting task, from getting all the lights from last year down from the attic, to the untangling excitement of it all!

Every year when I tackle this project I seem to gravitate to doing it during the night...you know when it's real dark. I say that it's easier for me to see how the lights will actually look all lit up in the splendor of the night..he..he.. when in actuality I think it's just a good excuse for me to indulge in the world of Christmas libations. It just wouldn't be proper to see Dan Justin stumbling around the front of his house with a glow on in the morning or even afternoon, ...

My Special Card!

Posted 12/2/2011 5:03:00 PM

For a little over a week now, I've been wrestling with whether I would blog about this, and it seems that I just can't help myself.  To know my wife is to love her. She never forgets anyone's birthday, anniversary, death, or any special occasion.  I don't how she does it, but she has an incredible memory.  For all these special occasions of family and friends she will always send a card.

Last Wednesday night, Thanksgiving eve, I got home from the station and she wasn't home.  It was a little after 9 and I was just wondering where she could be.  I called her cell, she answered, and sounded a bit flustered.  I said, "What are you up to?"  She replied, "Just doing some errands."  So we had a brief discussion about what we would do for dinner and such, and she said she'd be home soon.

Fast forward to Thanksgiving morning.  I ...

Pretentious Poppycock!!

Please...please...please tell me you're not one of the pretentious people who double kiss!! What do you mean, "double" kiss, you may ask?  Lately I've been noticing more and more, especially on some of the Housewives shows, that these women and men do the double kiss. You know, when you're greeting someone, or just saying hello to a friend, and you kiss them on each cheek ! What the heck is that???  This ain't Europe, baby. That's a European thing. This is the good old U..S..of A..!  Unless I'm mistaken, we just say hello by a kiss on one cheek, your choice, or whichever cheek is offered to you.

I've noticed Kelly Ripa doing it lately on her show, too. Stoppppp!!!  I don't care if you have money or tons of material stuff, this is a pretentious move.  Alright, here comes some of the best advice I could ever give you.  Don't ...

KIT????? Yeah, that's a new one for me too.  Keep in touch.  As the years go by, and we're all witnessing so many changes to the world, life and society.  It makes me ponder.  What am I "pondering?"

Well, to be honest, I worry about the lessening of human interaction. Between Facebook, texting and e-mailing, where is the face to face conversation going?  Where has that handwritten note gone?  Where is that phone call just to say hi, and say whatever it was that you just texted. Do people just not like people anymore?  Are people just becoming more lazy with all this technology at their fingertips?

It's called interpersonal communication.  It's becoming more scarce every day. It's a very sad state of affairs in my opinion. This is why you're finding so many people in your life who lack social skills. Why talk face to face when you can just send ...

Very Hard To Get Used To!!!!

Since this past Sunday I've been wrestling with, as Elton would say " the sun going down on me" around 4:30 in the afternoon. I mean this is not an easy transition for me, and I'm sure for you too.

Through the summer months when I get off the air at 8 PM it's usually still light out. Now when I look out my huge studio windows and it's so dark by 5 PM I tend to forget what time it really is. The sun rising earlier is nice but this falling into darkness in the afternoon is a tough pill to swallow.

Do you have any little things you do to trick your mind into believing that it's not that late? I'm going to try wearing a head band with a light attached to it so I always have light in my life for the upcoming winter months!!!! At least it was 72 ...

Amazing Talent!!!!

Posted 11/3/2011 6:10:00 PM

X Factor continues to blow me away with the caliber of talent on the show. After tonight they'll be down to just eleven performers I believe. I hate to even guess who will be going home.

Not that I think he should be leaving but I'm worried about sixty year old LeRoy Bell, who looks incredible for his age. I can only hope to look that good when I get to that beautiful year. The group Intensity could be in trouble too, but then I have to keep in mind who is voting on a show like this. I'm guessing it wil be a young crowd calling and texting, so people like fourteen year old rapper Astro and maybe even Intensity will be fine.

If you're reading this and haven't checked out X Factor yet you should. It's really good. If you're an Idol fan you may even like this better. It's on ...

I promised myself I wouldn't blog about Chaz Bono on "Dancing With the Stars" again, but I just can't help myself, especially after last night's show. He was terrible!!! I admire his guts to even be competing, but enough is enough.

If another celebrity besides Chaz goes home tonight because they didn't have enough votes, I really think I'm done. I should be now,  but I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment. It hurts my eyes when Chaz dances. It's at the point now where I am feeling sorry for him. Last week the poor guy's(???) fly was down while dancing, and this week while sweating up a storm, Bruno compaired him to a penguin.

Hopefully, America used their heads this week and got it right. It'll be nice to see Chaz in the audience cheering on the rest of the cast next week and the dude that should win the ...

I Was Impressed!

Posted 10/20/2011 6:26:00 PM

Not sure if you've become a fan of X Factor yet, but I sure have. I'm even enjoying it a little more than American Idol in some ways. The amount and caliber of talent on this show I am finding mind blowing. I'm sure this is due to the fact that age limits don't exist .

Tuesday night the four judges Simon Cowell, Paula, LA Reid and Nicole each had eight contestants at their respective homes to listen to them do one more song so that they could narrow the count down to just four each, which will make for sixteen total for the live shows which start next week. I couldn't believe some of the great singers that got let go. Then I thought about.....and the reasoning and premis behind the show is...do they have the x factor? That certain something that will make them a recording star!!

I was so impressed Tuesday ...

Ooooh..It Feels So Good!

Posted 10/11/2011 6:31:00 PM

It feels so good to turn on the American League MLB playoffs and not see the Yankees.

It feels so good to know the Yankees are not going to win the pennant.

It feels so good to know that A-Rod played so tragically bad!

Now what doesn't feel so good? Well to be honest, I hate to see two great players that the Red Sox employed last year, both in the American League playoffs. Third baseman Adrian Beltre playing his butt off for the Texas Rangers hitting homeruns, and Victor Martinez , always a threat when he gets up at bat for the Detroit Tigers. Like good old Bob Lobel used to say.."why can't we get players like that?" Well good for them and shame on the Sox for letting them go.

Now what do I find very amusing? When Mike Adams was pitching to Don Kelly last night in the Texas/Detroit game. ...

Follow Up!!!

Posted 10/5/2011 4:10:00 PM

What happened last night on Dancing With the Stars was abysmal, and I'm being very careful with my use of an adjective here. What a joke this show has become! My understanding is that this is a show about which so called star is the best dancer. This is an embarrasment to ABC as far as I'm concerned.

There is no way that Chaz Bono or at least Nancy Grace should not have been given their walking(dancing) papers last night. The only reason Kristen Cavallari was sent packing was due to the fact that her most memorable year was not a sad emotional story like everyone else had, plus she's a very attractive woman. Who makes up most of the voting demo? Women!!!! Is this making sense now?

None of this is Chaz Bono's fault. Everyone wants to see Cher in that audience and they are probably going to get their ...

It's Gotta Be This Week!!!!

Posted 10/4/2011 5:38:00 PM

While Dancing With the Stars is running, I try to predict who's going home for that week after I see Monday night's show, when the so called stars actually perform. Last week I thought that Chaz Bono would definitley being on the old train to oblivion, but somehow he made it to another week of so called dancing mediocrity. Last week Elisabetta (Clooney's ex) came off kind of witchy in rehearsals, so I think that was her downfall.

Well let me tell you, if Chaz makes it through this week, there's definitely something wrong in Danceville!!! He was absolutely terrible last night. I'm concerned that this could be a vote regarding an issue as opposed to actual dancing! I have resigned myself to the fact that for most of the shows it's a popularity contest until it gets down toward the end, but he barely dances. He wobbles around the dance ...

I Think You're Going Home!

Posted 9/27/2011 6:34:00 PM

I think you're going home Chaz Bono! You had a good run, but unless your fan base is bigger than I think, the gig is up babe..sorry I mean buddy! I felt bad for you last night with your crunchy knees. I know you were in pain. I admire your gallant effort and your courage with evreything that you've been through in your life.

It can't be easy Chaz with so many millions watching you. After last week I really thought Nancy Grace would be the one to go this week  but she seemed to impress the judges last night. So if I'm correct on my gut feeling from what I saw last night on Dancing with the Stars I think you'll be on Jimmy Kimmel tonight buddy!

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be into a dancing show but we are huh? Plus for me watching Chynna, Elisabetta ...

At the time of writing this blog the Sox are just a few minutes away from playing the first game of, up to this point, the most important series of the season. It's against those Tampa Rays!!! What a pain in the keister thay are. They're climbing right up our backs to try and nose their way into the wild card.
It's never easy. Why is this? Why can't we ever just run away with at least the division? Most experts predicted the Red Sox to take their division pretty easily. I mean, after all, isn't a 180 million dollar payroll supposed to make it a bit more stress-free? The Rays payroll is 40 million! What's wrong with this picture?

"The Help" is fantastic!!! I haven't read the book but seeing the movie made me really want to. I thought this would be a chick flick but it's an everybody flick with a great message, great acting and I actually got a little misty. I highly recommend it!
"Our Idiot Brother" on the other hand isn't horrible, just not what I expected going in. I love Paul Rudd who is the idiot brother, but I really expected more of a comedy. It does have many light moments, just not a comedy. It was a nice feeling movie though.
No matter how you cut it though..I love going to the movies, it's such a great escape from reality, especially when no one ...

What a blast this was. It was for Milan Lucics' charity foundation. This was the second year for the game and second time for me as well. Milan and the rest of the B's were great, real  friendly guys. They were the jocks. My team with Lenny Clark (comedian,Rescue Me), AJ Burnett (Fox 25). David Wade (WBZ TV), Joe Amorosino (7 NBC),

Today I got up, knew that the forecast was calling for unbelievable heat and humidity, so I had to make a decision. Do I do the long walk and wind sprints in the sizzle?  Mind you, I've done this before and my body and head has always felt a little weird when it's humid. Today and tomorrow though, it's super oppresive humidity. and the heat index is through the roof.

Have you been watching the hit TV show on NBC, The Voice? I'll tell ya, I said to myself ...oh no, not another talent show! The Voice, however, has attacked this whole reality talent thing with a different perspective. It's not like Idol where they go around the country audtioning for talent. The talent was all lined up, then the coaches,
Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera had their backs turned to the starting group of singers and only turned their chairs around if they liked "the voice" of the person singing, not knowing what anyone looked like. I must say I loved that part!
Well, after America's voting the past few weeks, and with the help of their specific coaches, it's down to the final four. They had all kinds of performances last night, from Neo to Pit Bull to Brad Paisley, ...

Wiseguy To The End!

Posted 6/24/2011 5:27:00 PM
I find this whole Whitey Bulger thing absolutely fascinating. Can you imagine being on the lam for sixteen years?. He obviously would have liked his and Catherine's time at the beach to have been a lot longer, but still, this guy was like a chamelion. He just blended into the scenery like any one of us.
I must say that there's no way someone or some people were not aiding Whitey with his retirement. How do you get over eight hundred thousand big ones and over thirty weapons from handguns to shot guns to knives in your rent controlled twelve hundred a month, two bedroom pad three blocks from the beach, wihout a little help from your friends?
Whitey needs a court appointed lawyer. He told the judge this afternoon at The Joseph Moakely Federal Courthouse that he wouldn't need a court appointed lawyer if ...

Carly Simon's song "Anticipation" comes to mind as I'm thinking about tomorrow night's Bruins game in Vancouver against those nose diving, embellishing, finger biting, cheap hitting,
skate in mouth Canucks. In case you were wondering like many have, what the heck is a Canuck? Well, it's not just a Canadian but  a French Canadian.
I'm hoping for an early goal from the B's just to take the pressure and tension off my heart and brain. I may bring home the defribullator we have here at the radio station just for the night. I can hear it now...clear.......charging...clear.....!!!! Dan, Dan... we scored it's ok...come back to us.
I'm sure you're as proud of Tim Thomas and the boys as I am. It has been such an exciting and thrilling ride this season and especially during the B's playoff run. Now we're just one win away from Lord ...

Are you kidding me...Pink????

Posted 6/8/2011 5:57:00 PM
Do you own a pink Red Sox cap? I hope not. Now don't get mad, but I'm kind of a traditionalist.  An old fashioned guy, I guess you could say. I like to open doors, pay checks at restaurants and just be your basic courteous type of guy. I do have a black, a red and a blue Red Sox hat myself, but no pink allowed in the Justin household!!!  Come on, where were the pink hats when the Sox had their tough days some years ago?  Those pink ones started to materialize when the Sox started having a lot of success.
Have you been watching the Bruins since the beginning of the season?  I'm so happy for these guys who have been playing their tails off all season.  A lot of people have jumped on the bandwagon...which brings my Sox pink hat question to mind again. Why not be with ...

Happiest Place on Earth!

I can't even begin to tell you what a tremendous time I had last week at Walt Disney World. For me there's nothing like seeing the face of a child when they see Mickey Mouse, Minnie or any of the gang at Disney for the first time! It's really magical. Even though when I go to Disney I'm working my tail off doing interviews and videos, I still have a blast, and I always come back with trips for you!!!
I just wanted to say a big thank you to Tony Diaz who was my Disney rep/guide who made sure I got everywhere I needed to be on time, what a great guy!!! So make sure you keep track of all my video postcards from Walt Disney World, they're right here on our homepage. Good luck!! If you've never been you'll find out that it truly is the happiest ...

Does It Fit?

Posted 5/13/2011 4:56:00 PM
One of the most miserable places on earth for me is a fitting room in a clothing store. I love clothes but I'm super particular about what I wear and how it looks on me. I have a certain style and taste I guess. It drives my family nuts sometimes cause it's so hard for anyone to shop for me. I'll tell you though, I was in a fitting room this morning trying on clothes and you would have thought it was the end of  the world. It was so damn frustrating. Everything I pulled off the rack that I thought had a chance of going home with me and that looked so good on the floor was a humungus failure. It was so hot in that little fitting room and the lighting in those places is always so unflattering that it throws you into a tornado of a depression, short lived as it ...

Not Gonna Sweat It!

Posted 5/5/2011 5:08:00 PM
So I'm heading out the door to come to the station this afternoon and much to my surprise there were three cars at the end of my driveway.
The BMW actually blocking my driveway had a flat tire, the van that came to help change the tire and the Crown Victoria was a Captain on the Boston Police from my district that stopped to lend a hand. So as usual I really have to get a move on and get to the studio to make my crossover with Nancy (this is where Nancy and I chat on the air as she ends her show and I begin mine). I'll tell ya, my Program Director (bossman) doesn't it like it when we miss these crossovers. So what am I going to do with this predicament I'm in? They obviously can't move the jacked up car, so I simply say "can I do anything to help you?" ...

New Phone Line

Posted 4/28/2011 5:25:00 PM
Today is my dear mother's birthday, my lovely mother Dorothea. My mom passed away five years ago, but to this day I still go to my cell phone sometimes in the car to call her on my way home from the station as I did every night.
Boy did I love my mom. She was the classiest, sharply dressed, kind and believe it or not coolest mother. We had the house on the street where all the kids came over to hang out and play. We had the house with all the parties, any excuse for a party. Mom loved to entertain. Everyone loved Dorothea. I miss her so damn much. You know that ache you feel when you really miss someone. So every once in a while, especially on a day like today, mom's birthday, I long for a phone line to heaven. I won't even talk that long, just long enough to say ...

Are you like me? Do you find yourself desperate for any amount of consistent sunshine possible that we can muster up? I don't think I can remember such a time like this that I wanted great weather so badly. How about you? We had the super tough winter, and now on top of that it's been a miserable spring. So come on Mother Nature, how about a break? I'm putting in my request for some incredible weather. Not just for a day or two though, we need a string of many days of sunshine and mild temperatures. I just know that you won't let me down. Just watch how everyones mood is enhanced when Mr Sun comes out for a while and we all have our shorts and short sleeves on. I can't wait!

Time To Appreciate

Posted 4/15/2011 5:37:00 PM
At the time that I'm writing this blog I'm just beginning to come out of a minor funk! The Sox have started so poorly and I've been trying so desperately to stay positive and have the glass half full outlook. Then last night my buddy Milan Lucic and the Bruins dropped their first game of their best of seven series with those rat fink Montreal Canadiens. The Celtics start their first round of the playoffs Sunday night and boy am I apprehensive about this little shindig about to happen with the New York Knicks. I'm going to the Sox game Monday, that's the early one at 11 AM due to the Marathon. So I'm thinking about all the craziness in town around Fenway and getting to the station on time for my show. Everything you just read is why my spirits are skyward again. I mean think about it ,our ...

Do Ya Get One Back?

Posted 4/12/2011 5:04:00 PM
I always pride myself as being a friendly person with a kind heart. Some days are better than others, but I truly don't find it difficult at all to be amicable and nice to anyone and everyone, from the CEO and President of our company, Peter Smyth, to Edgar who comes into the company every night to empty trash, clean and vacuum. To me it's just about treating everyone with the same respect that I would like in return. It's just not that hard, nor is it rocket science. Most of the time when I smile and say  "hi" to someone that I don't know personally here in the hallways or even on the street I usually get a return smile or hello, but not always. This used to bother me and I'd wonder why they didn't smile back or say hello. Was it because they thought I was a weirdo ...

Is it just me or have you noticed that  the "it" word lately is "amazing?" It seems like everything is "amazing!!!" Why does this happen? People seem to latch onto a word and absolutely use and abuse it until it is so crusty worn, torn, toasty and dead! Whenever I watch reality television such as The Bachelor or any of The Houswives shows or an actor on a talk show, everything is amazing!!! The view was amazing. He or she is amazing. This wine is amazing. The cast was amazing. The movie is amazing! What happened to the rest of our vocabulary? What's wrong with.....terrific, stupendous, wonderful, unbelievable, dynamite, great, incredible, astonishing, stunning, even stupifying? I don't get it. Well actually I do. People like to be "in."
Do the "in" things, say the "hip" things, wear the "in" clothes etc. Yeah I get it. Doesn't mean I like it. As a matter ...

Tim Terrific!

Posted 3/31/2011 4:34:00 PM
I had the opportunity to interview one of my favorite athletes yesterday, Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield. We were chatting about the Dana Farber/Jimmy Fund rally against cancer which is happening next Friday April 8th when the Sox take on the Yankees for opening day at Fenway!
This is such a cool event. Tim and Clay Buchholz are this years spokesplayers. So here's the deal....rally against cancer is a way for us to cheer on the sox while we fight cancer with the Jimmy Fund. So next Friday for opening day wear your Sox gear to work or school and contribute $5.00 or more to the Jimmy Fund. Which ever school or work place is the top fundraiser will get a visit from either Tim or Clay. That's pretty cool, so start letting eveyone know. We have to beat the Spankees, especially on opening day and help fight cancer at ...

That's Entertainment!

I am enjoying me some American Idol this season!!!! Seriously the show has been re-energized. If you caught last night's elimination show it was full of surprises. It opened with the eleven finalists staying with the motown theme from the night before singing Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Then all of a sudden the stage door opened and like the parting of the Red Sea out came Stevie Wonder singing one of his classics. Then he started asking where Steven Tyler was. Steven shouted from his judges pirch I'm here! Stevie said only for a friend...and started singing his hit Happy Birthday for Tyler's sixty third! They presented Steven with a painting of himself and a cake, he legitimately seemed overwhelmed.
Ok so we're down to eleven finalists and Casey Abrams ends up with the least amount of votes. Time for Casey to pack it in and go home ...

I Love Kirstie!

Posted 3/22/2011 7:26:00 PM
May I just say that I had one of those gut feelings that you get from time to time. This one, odd as it is, was that Kirstie Alley was going to do extremely well on Dancing With The Stars this season. After watching her last night I could see my intuition starting to come to fruition. They saved her for last on the two hour premier but it was worth the wait. I thought she was graceful, sexy and elegant. Vegas has Kendra as the favorite but I don't think that's happening unless she improves quickly. After what I saw from last night, it may already be time for Wendy "how you doin" Williams to sit this one out. Poor thing, she was so stiff. I really wanted her to do well too. I didn't think I would be that interested this season cause the cast didn't blow me ...

Broken Hearted

Ok, so by now you probably realize that I'm kind of a reality show junkie! Did you enjoy last nights Bachelor finale? All the spoilers I read had said that Chantal was going to be Brad's pick, so what a shock it was to my system when he asked Emily to marry him! I did like both women but I have to say Emily is a special woman. She is your prototypical southern belle. I admire her wanting to protect her five year old daughter and to make sure that Brad knows exactly what he is getting into. So after the finale was over last night we had another hour of  fun with"After the Final Rose." It just keeps on going! I wasn't a bit surprised to find out that Brad and Emily had already hit a few speed bumps in their realtionship. Can you imagine falling in love with someone and ...

If you happen to watch Celebrity Apprentice then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. You may agree or disagree. I have a whole new opinion of Ms Dionne Warwick. I've never been a fan of Star Jones but even now it's more intense. Last night Lisa Rinna got fired by Donald Trump. Now this Celebrtity Appentice thing is for charity, charities of all sorts that are important to each celebrity. Lisa Rinna was pushed into being the project manager of last night's task of writing and performing a children's book by her own team. The men beat the women with their creation so Lisa Rinna as project manager brought Dionne and Star back into the boardroom with her. Well the blood bath commenced. I understand that you need to be well organized and be able to delegate tasks to your team but Lisa first of all was bullied into ...

Will You Watch?

Alright I admit it.....I have become somewhat of an expert on some of the crazy reality television shows that cloud up our airwaves. Do you want a list? Well believe it or not, I watch: American Idol, Dancing With The Stars, Jersey Shore, Real Housewives from anywhere, Celebrity Rehab when it's on and last but not least I watch The Bachelorette and The Bachelor. We're currently in a countdown to the final choice for The Bachelor's Brad Womack. He is down to his final two ladies; Chantal and Emily. I like them both for different reasons. It's going to be a very tough choice for him I'm sure. I wanted to watch it tonight but NOOOO we have to watch tonight's episode of "the women tell all." This is when all the ladies that were on the show come back and snipe on each other and get catty. I ...

So Much Talent!

Posted 3/2/2011 6:04:00 PM
While I was watching the twelve men perform last night on American Idol in front of a live audience for the first time I was blown away by some of their incredible talent, weren't you? I can't remember over the past nine seasons when I've seen so many great singers in one group. Paul MacDonald and Jason Lusk are absolutely outstanding! I don't think that all twelve have that "it" factor, but at least half of them do. Tonight the women peform for the first time and I can't wait to see how they compare. We vote to keep five of each on the show and then the judges have their wild card picks to get it down to twelve of the men and women combined. Idol has definitely sparked my interest again this year in a big way. I always watched but this year I find myself enjoyong it even more.

Anyway, isn't  it always a great feeling when you have a week of leisure time staring you right in the face and you can finally decompress from all of those pressures of life that you need a break from so bad ? Why does it go by so fast? It seems  at least for me when I'm on vacation, in a great location or even just chillin' at home it scoots by to damn ferociously speedy, and I'm sick of it. I'm on vacation for a week and I'm going to do everything in my power to make it drag by oh so slowly. How am I going to do that ? I haven't figured that out yet. My thinking is to just relish every relaxing moment, not think about the ...

It's All About Love.

Do you have a significant other in your life? Are you just beginning a new relationship with someone? Do you feel like you're falling in love and saying to yourself that "this could be the one?" Well that's tremendous. There is nothing like that feeling of being in love and being with that special person. I'm sure then, today being Valentine's Day is a great day for you. Maybe you've received roses, or flowers, or a  nice box of candy. Maybe you're going out for a nice romantic dinner. That's great. I hope you have a great Valentine's Day. Just so you know though, I think everyday should be Valentine's Day. I don't mean that you should go out and buy flowers, candy and romantic dinners every day, but just like Christmas why can't we always have that same love in our hearts? Why can't we treat the ones we love ...

Glimmer of spring!

They have loaded up the truck and it's on route headed south. What do you mean "what truck?"
The Red Sox equipment truck left Fenway today with all the stuff the players and coaches need to start SPRING training! Yeah "spring" training.
Pitchers and catchers report at the beginning of next week and positional players at the end of next week. I almost feel like doing a jig, not quite yet though. When I see that first pitch thrown in a spring training game I may have to cut a rug! Oh yeah opening day is two months from today...Spankees at Fenway, April 8th!!!
It always gets me excited when this happens every winter, but this winter is a different story, isn't it? We need springtime and our Red Sox baaaaddddddd!!!!!!!

I think Christina Aguilera has an amazing voice and is quite a talent, but what she did to our national anthem at yesterday's superbowl was just not that impressive. I think that she got caught up in the moment and let her voice start doing vocal aerobics. She was too affected, along with her voice. The anthem in my opinion should be sung pretty straight forward with emotion and fairly conservatively. No one has come close to Whitney's some years ago at a superbowl. It was great ,but she also tracked it with the music before hand. If I were in charge of getting the talent for such a huge venue or happening, I would ask the artist what approach they were going to take to the song. Just sing it like it's supposed to be sung. Keep it simple, oh please keep it simple but strong just like our ...

Do you care?

Posted 2/4/2011 5:23:00 PM
Do you really care about the superbowl this Sunday? I mean really? Granted there are two storied football franchises playing, both with great history on their side. Green Bay, you think Vince Lombardi all the great players from past years, and all those titles. Pittsburgh, you think Franco Harris, Terry Bradshaw, the steel curtain and all those titles. Me I'm thinking wings baby! Honey barbecue, Buffalo, teriyaki, I'm thinkin' pizza and a nice cold frosty(or two). So since the Patriots are not in it, I have other priorities. Oh I'll be watching alright, but I'll be more concerned about more important issues....MUNCHIES!!!!  Green Bay wins 24 to 17.

Hit after hit, the snow storms just keep coming! I know, I'm sick and tired of shoveling too. I'm sick and tired of inching out ever so slowly with my car from behind a snow bank in order that I keep on living. I'm sick and tired of the ice and the weathermen and the school cancellations and...well you get the picture. We're all in the same boat baby! However the difference with some people is they can put a positive light on all this weather craziness. I'm one of those people. After a fresh snow, what is more beautiful than that? It's so nice when there's no one on the road, silence sometimes can be golden. I like it when everything slows down and is quiet. I don't get enough of that. Now don't get me wrong I don't want too much quiet, I'll have plenty of that one day ...

Mr. Tyler

I was always an Aerosmith fan . I loved their music and admired their longevity in the business. They're a legendary rock and roll band, and it's pretty damn cool that they're from Boston. After watching Steven Tyler as a judge on American Idol I have become a huge fan of HIM! I love the way he treats people. I love his sense of humor, and after he got up Wednesday night to say hello to that poor girl who was brain damaged from an accident and is the fiance of one of the contestants that made it to Hollywood, I found a whole new respect for Mr Tyler. He went over to her in her wheelchair and took her face by his hands and kissed her on the side of the head. He whispered in her ear that her fiance sings well because he sings to her. It touched me and I'm ...

Here we go...holdays have been over for a couple of weeks now...the weather has been very stormy. We usually deal with a blizzard every other year in Boston, we've had two within two weeks.
We just had more snow yesterday and rain today, and then we have another storm this Friday. With this amount of storminess, ( not sure if that's a word)  lack of sunshine and short days to boot, have you found yourself slipping into a funk? Don't do it!!!! You can avoid the funk baby!!! It may take a little effort though. What I try to do when I start to feel that down funky feeling, I work out. I try to get the blood cooking and flowing through the veins of the temple.(body) By doing this you'll get your endorphins going which in turn will make you feel so much better. Then it hits!!!!! Reality!!!! Alright winter wonderland time is over! Get dressed we have to go out there and shovel! Homework that was put off because of no school has to be done, everyone has to get back into the swing of things tomorrow. I know it stinks, you wish it could go on longer, but hey, it was real nice and fun while it lasted. It was just the short break we needed to slow down and enjoy the beauty of living in New England and hopefully relaxing for a bit with the kids and watch them frolicking in the snow. How much do ...

Recognition at Christmas

Posted 12/20/2010 5:48:00 PM
I had a lovely appearance this past Saturday at Jordan's furniture in Avon at their Enchanted Village display. Walking through this amazing village of so many wonderful Christmas scenes brought back such vivid memories from my childhood when my family would venture downtown to see the Village and Santa when it was located at Jordan Marsh. Heather Copelas who is Jordan's director of PR gave me a great tour and a lot of insight into some of the delightful things that Elliot Tatelman and the gang at Jordan's Furniture do for charities, especially for children in foster care that are simply looking for someone to adopt them and give them the love that all of us deserve. I was extremely touched by the stories that Heather told me about some of the kids that have been adopted, being an adopted child myself. I just wanted in a small way through my little blog ...

The Tree

Posted 12/13/2010 7:45:00 PM
I'm a guy who takes a tremendous amount of pride in our Christmas tree every year. I like it to be absolutely perfect, from the shape, to the lights and decorations and even the height! Well Saturday we went to Allendale Farm to get our tree. I'm telling you, watching me look over the trees you'd think I was choosing a new puppy to take home, not a tree. So my wife, son and I finally agree on a tree, I did have this gut feeling that it may be a bit short for my liking but I went for the fullness and shape. We get it home, in the stand, straightened out, let it fall out and there you go, I think it's too short. So last night(Sunday) I decide to put the lights on it, all white, tons and tons of white sparkly lights. After I was done ...

I'll tell ya the motor is having trouble going  at full speed today. Do you ever have days like that?  Do you happen to know of any kind of natural pick me up besides coffee or soda?
I find that on a day like today I'm dragging my sweet buns and have tried my special smoothie recipe, also tried a tablespoon of honey and cinnamon, tried working out, and nothing seems to be working. Does this ever happen to you ? Maybe you could give a radio guy some good advice on how to put some energy into his temple (body)! Come on baby give it to me, I'm all eyes!

When to Dive In!

I kind of have ths tradition that I've been doing for some years now. I decorate the house with many many lights on the bushes in front of our palacial estate (kidding), I put white candles in the windows and white lights all over the bushes except for one. That's a special bush. When my son Austin was very young, probably about 4 years old I told him that he could choose any bush in the yard and decorate it any way he wanted. So I figured that he would choose a nice big bush in the back yard that only we would see, but NO...my guy chose the biggest bush in the front of the house and wanted it decorated with the multicolored lights. Being a man of my word that's exactly what I did. To this day the house is all white lights except for that one special bush. I'm just trying to decide ...

I just can't help myself and the more I think about it... that's ok. I'm not ashamed. I'm not ashamed that watching a Hallmark movie Sunday night called "November Christmas" caused me to get quite misty a number of times. The funny thing is that during a Hallmark presentation like this during commercial breaks, they run Hallmark commercials, and they all got me misty as well. They were all filled with touching human emotion type stuff.
I have to tell you, I'm a man that loves to work out, loves sports, loves meat and potatoes, well mostly chicken and fish, heehee, and I love to hang with the guys, so what's up with being so sensitive during movies and commercials about love and caring? Nothing's up. I'm proud to be a guy that is not afraid to show his sensitive side and get a bit teary when struck with a beautiful ...

No nuts of any kind, any kind, definitely no sausage, no cranberries or raisins either please. Notice I'm saying please. Could someone just give me some good old fashioned plain bread stuffing, not even any onions, just plain stuffing. Turkey, mashed potatoes corn or green beans, heck I'll even try your squash if it's sweet enough and SIMPLE, and of course the gravy baby! I like to keep life as simple as possible to save energy for when it does become complicated. So if you don't mind, a great simple turkey dinner would make this simple man so happy. Time For Reality

Posted 11/23/2010 4:27:00 PM
Alright enough is enough! It's time for reality to set in on Dancing With The Stars. If Bristol Palin walks out of that soundstage with that mirror ball trophy tonight it will be an abomination. Everyone is entitled to their own political views, but not when it involves an entertainment show about dancing. The tea party people who have kept Bristol the Pistol on the show by voting so much for  the girl with the least amount of talent need to get a grip, as well as the morons who are making death threats against Bristol and her dance partner Mark. This show is not about politics. It is pure and simple entertainment. I do feel very bad for Bristol. This is not her fault. The people who can't decpiher the differences in life between fun, entertainment and politics need to get some serious therapy. Oh yeah and if by chance ...

Last nights debacle on Dancing With The Stars was a damn shame. I wasn't a huge Brandy fan, thought she was a bit too dramatic and diva like at times, however that doen't mean that her dancing talent, improvement and prowess over Bristol Palin should have been overlooked by the knucklehead viewers who managed to launch a less talented dancer, Bristol the Pistol into the finals next Monday night on ABC. Now don't get me wrong about Bristol, I think that she has improved immensely over the past nine weeks. She has no show business experience whatsoever, only a mother who was a vice presidential candidate. Hey wait a minute...no...never....not in the good ol United States of America...the viewers wouldn't vote based on their politics would they? You're damn right they would and they did. What a damn shame. Sorry Brandy you were robbed baby!

Great Movie!

If your thinking about seeing a movie this weekend, I highly recommend seeing Ben Affleck's The Town. Oh my goodness this movie is so cool. I wanted to go back into the theartre and see it again immediately. The cast is great from Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Blake Lively, Chris Cooper, Rebecca Hall to Ben himself. It boggles my mind how Ben helped write the screenplay, directed and starred in the movie, it has to be quite an undertaking. The storyline is interesting and the action is right on, plus it was shot here in Boston so it's so cool to see all the scenes and you say" I know exactly where that is!" My wife asked me if I thought people in other parts of the country would enjoy it as much as we did, and I said "absolutely"! It's so good also when the actors get the Boston ...

I hate wakes and funerals, but it is part of life and part of being respectful and supportive to family and friends at a dire and upsetting time. My last living aunt passed away a few days ago and we had the wake and funeral all in one day, yesterday. I looked around and noticed so many family members such as cousins that I loved and cared about. The weird thing is I hardly ever see them unless it's a wake, funeral or a happier occasion like a wedding. Why do you think this is? Are we all so busy and caught up in our own lives that we tend to forget our relatives. Some may say that it's a blessing to not see some of their relatives. That may be so, but they can't all be knuckleheads right? Here's wishing for a slower not so fast paced life. Are you in the same boat, only seeing relatives ...

Reach Out and Touch!

Posted 11/5/2010 4:52:00 PM
As I'm contemplating getting a new cell phone due to the fact that I have been notified by my carrier Verizon that I am due for an upgrade and some incredible deals, I find myself in a quandry. Do I get a phone with a great keyboard for texting purposes? I was chatting with Nancy Quill about this just this afternoon; I feel that in this day and age of so much technology, not enough of us are having human voice to voice contact. Everyone is texting, and I mean everyone, from kids, to high school to college to workforce! What is so bad about just calling someone and saying eveything in a short call that would probably take about 5 texts? When was the last time you sat down and wrote a nice letter to someone, a thank you, or a love letter? I mean don't you love hearing someones voice ...

Did you?

Posted 11/2/2010 5:30:00 PM
Did you vote? I sure hope you did. Every time I utilize my right and priviledge to fill in the oval with that black pen on my ballot I get the best feeling all throughout my body. I feel honored , priviledged and so fortunate to be able to cast a ballot for the individuals who I think will do the best job for our cities and towns, our state and  our country and most importantly us, American citizens. Yeah, that feels so good to say...I am an American, an American citizen that has the right to vote. I look at it this way, if you don't take that right and run with it, don't complain. It's in our hands.

Are you the one?

Posted 10/28/2010 4:40:00 PM
Are you the one when driving that doesn't use your blinker when taking a turn? Are you the one that doesn't yeild to other drivers when you should? Are you the one that gets in the passing lane on the highway and goes too slow? Are you the one that doesn't give other drivers the right of way when you enter a rotary? Are you the one that has your high beams on at night when they shouldn't be. Are you the one that is not courteous on the road? I myself can be an aggressive driver, however I pride myself as also being kind, courteous, and careful. My son is just starting to drive and I am teaching him these qualities. I must say he is doing very well. So listen...try to be kind and careful out there, for me, for you, for your family, and for my son. If ...

Well the Celtics home opener is finally here! They open their season with a bang tonight at the Garden with what could be the most hyped and anticipated opener in the history of the NBA!!! I can't wait to see the reception Shaq gets when he is introduced. Between Miami's newest members Lebron James and Chris Bosh and of course their star Dwayne Wade going up against the many stars of the Celtics, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo and the gang it ought to be very entertaining. Lebron going to Miami has definitely lit a fire under the Celtics this season. They may tell you it doesn't matter or that this is just another game but believe me winning tonight would be a statement along with any other time they face Miami this season. I can't wait!! Go Green! Go Celtics! Go Big Shamrock!!!!

Looking Good!!

Posted 10/21/2010 4:38:00 PM
Just curious, how do you feel about the old adage; if you look good, you feel good? I myself think it has a ton of validity! Don't you just feel a bit sharper and have more bounce in your step when you have on a brand new outfit that you know looks tremendous on you, or you just got a great hair cut that your stylist really hit the bulls eye on. Then how about when you're getting compliments about how you look, maybe even could be regarding shedding a few pounds. Tell me you don't just love it when someone says to you..."have you lost weight, you look great." See this is what I mean. If you look good baby....you feel good!!! No bout adoubt it. (that's on purpose)

Christmas yet?

Posted 10/19/2010 6:42:00 PM
Do me a favor let me know if you see or have seen any Christmas decorations in a mall anywhere. Every year it gets more and more ridiculous how early they come out! Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely love everything about Christmas except for the commercialization of it that comes way too early. I mean lets get through Halloween and Thanksgiving first. How do you feel about it? Maybe you like seeing Christmas decorations in your mall in October. All I know is that the knuckleheads are at work and not the elves!

Have you ever had a "muse" in your life? I was watching this Albert Brooks movie this morning on HBO called The Muse, and I thought how cool would it be to have someone around all the time to inspire and breathe deep creativity into your mind and soul, especially if it were Sharon Stone., yeah she played the role of the muse in the movie. Ok now that I've gotten that off my chest it's time to go back to my world of dreams and wishes. hee hee. Have a great weekend!

That's some scary stuff!

Posted 10/13/2010 4:02:00 PM
Over the weekend I took my son and three of his buddies to Witch's Woods in Westford at Nashoba Valley. Can I just tell you, I never laughed so hard and screamed so much. I don't know what amused me more, the look of terror and fear, fun fear mind you, on my son and his friends faces or laughing at myself for being such a scaredy cat! Everything was done very well, from the "haunted hayride" to the "nightmare mansion" and of course "castle morbid" and the "3D keeper's crypt." It was just a ton of fun. There was lots of happy food and other attractions also. It doesn't take much to amuse me and make me laugh and this was definitely worth it. I never knew zombies, witches , ghosts and horror film characters could be so enjoyable. Take the family and have some good laughs and screams!!!!

Pumpkin Head

Posted 10/8/2010 6:29:00 PM
Hey, do you happen to know a great place to go pick out a pumpkin and get a caramel apple? I used to go to this farm in Concord called Arena farms and we would pick out these huge pumpkins from big mounds of them, then have a great caramel apple that was dipped right in front of you. It was so wonderful. Going to a place like that in the fall is so much more enjoyable than picking a pumkin out at the supermarket. Running out of time before Halloween, so any suggestions?

Tasty Comfort

Posted 10/5/2010 5:47:00 PM
As I look out the window of the Magic studios and see the drizzle, fog, wind and rain, this being the second day in a row of this rawness, I find myself scanning my brain for comfort food ideas. What do you like to eat to make it "all better?" I myself have an assortment of thoughts on this enticing matter. There's nothing like a nice bowl of hot soup with some crackers. If I have the time I have a great recipe handed down from my mom for baked macaroni and cheese that I like to cook up. For some reason having something to eat that you don't usually have on a daily basis but absolutely love seems to make everything just a little easier to take. What does it for you?

Social Network?

Posted 10/1/2010 5:34:00 PM
With the movie The Social Network opening today it made me ponder..... What am I pondering? Are you on Face Book? If you are do you enjoy it, or do you think it is just a way for people to be narcisistic? You know, letting everyone know what they are up to, or doing at the moment, or eating or drinking, or posting some profound thought? Have you reconnected with someone you lost track of with Face Book? Do you like to creep on friends pages? See these are my queries, because I have been on Face Book myself for the past few months and have found it fascinating, sometimes amusing and other times not so much. I think people have different levels of usage. Some are totally addicted to it and some like me just check in once in a while. I find that it also keeps me connected to ...

Simple Hoodsie!!!

Posted 9/29/2010 6:18:00 PM
I like to keep it simple. I like a simple life. I like simple questions. I love simple answers. I hate making things a federal case and bigger and more important than they should be just to make myself feel important. So when I need a little pick me up I try to think of something simple, to do just that. I find that if you bring yourself back to what made you happy as a child, it will most likely make you happy now. We just don't stop and think often enough in our busy hectic lives to remember that. As a child I simply liked Hoodsies. So I simply went to the supermarket and bought some. I simply had a couple of them and for some strange simple reason, I had a simple pick me up. Do yourself a favor, keep things simple and you'll simply be happy.

Smell and Memories

Posted 9/27/2010 6:07:00 PM
When I was out doing part of my workout in the streets the other day I passed a house that had this amazing aroma coming from it. Have you ever smelled something and it brought back a  memory? The smell was like a combination of glazed donuts and bacon. Every Sunday morning at this over night camp I went to as kid  called North Woods up at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire they would have a ton of glazed donuts, eggs and bacon in the mess hall along with fly juice. It was the bomb!! I love scents and smells that arouse the senses!!!
Don't you?

It Just Feels Itchy!

Posted 9/23/2010 6:17:00 PM
Can you believe what we've been hearing about bed bugs lately? It's down right nasty! Thank God they're not deadly, just a big pain in the kiester baby! I myself have never had the unfortunate experience of encountering a bed bug thank God. If you have, you have my sympathies. I just happened to read something today that caught me off guard about the pesky little creatures. Did you know that they could possibly hang out in dressing rooms in clothing stores? Yeah...neither did I!!! They can be on the benches, the chairs, around the mirror or in any dark crevice. So make sure that you hang up the clothes that you are about to try on and the clothes that you wore to the store. I would wash any new clothes when you got home also. Oh momma...I have to go now, my skin is crawling!

We had a great programming meeting today with our Program Director, Don Kelley here at the station. It was basically to go over any subtle changes to our music that you have asked for and about how we can make you, our devoted listener happy and entertained 100 % of the time. Sitting there and listening to our fearless leader supply information to us regarding your so important feedback; for me was extremely invigorating. I and the rest of us here at Magic take pride in delivering the best radio possible. We have always and always will respect your opinions, and appreciate your loyalty after all these years. Just know that I'm pumped that you are and will be listening.!!!Thanks so much!

Climb and Pick!

Posted 9/16/2010 4:33:00 PM
Have you ever gone apple picking? Believe it or not, and as much as I adore the fall season I have never picked an apple. The only apples I pick are the red delicious ones at the supermarket!!! Every fall my wife and one of my many sister in laws take their mother/my mother in law apple picking. They invite me every year, and every year I decline. I do go to farm country to pick out a few tremendous pumpkins every fall and have a caramel apple, but for some odd reason I just can't wrap my head around the apple picking. I'm starting to wonder what it's all about. Do you recommend any great places for this adventure, because that's just what it would be for this autumn boy!

And the Winner Is.....

Posted 9/15/2010 4:51:00 PM
Well actually we don't know yet who the winner is for America's Got Talent final results show tonight at 8 on NBC. However as you probably guessed I have an opinion on who it should be. If you're familiar with the show then you know that last night was the finals with the final four contestants, Michael Grimm, Prince Poppycock, Fighting Gravity and the adorable Jackie Evancho. I think Jackie Evancho as young as she is has the voice of an angel. God gives everyone some special talent. Sometimes it takes some of us longer to figure out what it is more than others. I believe she is about ten or eleven years old but this little angel has a God given ability to sing pure and beautifully. She did a version of Ave Maria last that I must have watched  over and over on my DVR four times. It just blew ...

Ahhhhhh.... the fresh scent of fall, well not officially meteorolically yet, but when the kids are back at school, the Patriots have started the season, you need a sweatshirt on some days and evenings all is good in the world for this boy. I love the fall!!! It is without a doubt my favorite season, and not because my birthday comes around in the fall, it's just simply invigorating. Dry air, crisp evenings with the fireplace going, the smell of burning leaves, actually anything to do with leaves is so inviting. You can play in em', you can wonder at their changing beauty and you can burn them. well in some communities. Then there's good old Halloween, so much fun for the kids and some aduits, like me!!!! I'm so happy I could just skip down the road right now!!!! ahahahahahahah

No Trade

Posted 9/1/2010 5:35:00 PM
I was in San Francisco all last week for a vacation. We did just about everything you could do in the city by the bay in the amount of time given.

Of course one of the many highlights for me was going to AT&T Park for a baseball game. I saw the Giants knock the boogies out of the Reds in a 16 to 5 debacle. It was very exciting, lots of home runs, triples and doubles! I had great seats right at third base eight rows back. The seats were comfortable, roomy and plenty of leg room. The vendors were coming around constantly with ice cold lemonade, churros, yup churros, kettle corn, cotton candy and a variety of other offerings but no hot dogs and no beer!!!

So had to walk up to the concession stands and find this big monstrosity of a piece of meat in a big crispy bun. It ...

Live Free Or Die

Posted 8/13/2010 5:50:00 PM
Here we are with the heavily promoted tax-free weekend in Massachusetts upon us. So many advertisers want your business, encouraging you to buy, buy, buy, and telling you how much money you'll save this weekend. It is so true. Don't you just love it? I wonder if our New England neighbors just to the north of us in beautiful New Hampshire have weekends like us. We are so lucky. Wait ,wait a minute, they don't do this type of thing in New Hampshire do they? They don't have to. They don't have a sales tax. Can you imagine sales tax-free shopping year round? Hey listen, don't get me wrong. I realize our incredibly high taxes here in good old Mass generate revenue for some good stuff that is needed, but how about this idea....we do this tax-free weekend thing more than once a year. I don't think it would break the proverbial ...

I Still Have Wheels

Posted 8/9/2010 6:23:00 PM
This past Friday night I had the pleasure of participating in a celebrity softball game for Boston Bruin Milan Lucic's charity, Celebrities for CharityFoundation. I have to tell you..I had a blast!!! I am a former baseball player and haven't competed in a very long time. This was FUN!!! I was with a great bunch of guys from Milan, Boston Bruin Shawn Thornton, Tim Thomas, Nifty himself Rick Middleton, to boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward who by the way has the movie of his life coming out December 10th called "The Fighter" starring Mark Walhberg and Matt Damon. It was truly a "rock and jock" game. I went 4 for 4 at the plate. We played the game at the home of the Boston Red Sox single A minor league club Lowell Spinners on their beautifully manicured field at
LeLacheur Park in Lowell. 90 feet base to base. I haven't run that ...

Tea, Honey or Lemon?

Posted 7/25/2010 1:39:00 PM
How about all of the above! It's a steamy hot summer Sunday and I'm inside trying to figure out how to get my voice back. For some strange reason it decided to take a vacation from me yesterday. What is a radio personality to do without his # 1 tool? I HAVE to go to work tomorrow to tell you all about TNT's latest hit Rizzoli and Isles. So I have to figure this out. I watched tomorrow's (Monday July 26) episode last night and it is so good. If you haven't heard about Rizzoli and Isles yet it is a drama with it's fair share of funny moments based in Boston about Jane Rizzoli( Angie Harmon) who is the only female in the Boston Homicide unit, and her co-hort Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) who is the medical examiner. The two of these relateable characters are great together. They're best friends ...

I Scream!

Posted 7/13/2010 4:11:00 PM
That's right....I scream..you scream...we all scream for ice cream!!!!! Do you find yourself craving that sweet, cold, creamy goodness all so more often in these hot sweltering summer months? Well that makes sense right? Plus don't you find that no matter what mood you're in, you can have a nice big ice cream cone, Sundae, or frappe, anything with ice cream in it and it has the power to put you in a wonderful mood. It really is a tremendous thing! How about when you hear the ice cream man in the ice cream truck coming down the road, in your neighborhood or at the park. It brings you right back to when you were a kid and you felt that excitement all over your body, and you think what kind of fantastic ice cream treat will I get from the good humor man today???? Hmmmm...let me think, maybe a Nutty ...

Posted 6/29/2010 4:25:00 PM
I hope you're enjoying your summer so far. Speaking of the word "enjoy",
this past weekend I had an extremely enjoyable experience. I was treated to my very first massage by the TNT television network at The Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. Let me tell you, all I can say is emmmm
boyyyyyy...how sweet it is!!!! I can't believe I hadn't had a massage before. I guess I was just a little shy and didn't feel like I should pamper myself with such a luxury. Sorry, but I'm hooked now. This was sixty minutes of heaven baby! My masseuse's name was Meg. She was very nice with great hands and a soothing voice. When the sixty minutes was up I was a little unsteady on my feet from being so relaxed. She put her arm around me as she walked me out of her room to ...

Very Sticky

Posted 6/23/2010 6:30:00 PM
I'm just curious....do you enjoy the hot, sticky, muggy weather we endure from time to time during our summer months here in Boston and New England? I find it hard to believe that you or anyone would, but then I am proven wrong. Case in point; my lovely friend Nancy Quill who is, of course, on middays here at Magic, absolutely loves the muggy hot weather. It reminds her of her childhood at the beach. I can totally understand that. If something brings you back to a fond memory that is wonderful. However I find it hard to comprehend how anyone can actually enjoy walking outside and feeling like you can't breathe, and those lovely beads of sweat start appearing on your forehead and upper lip. Don't you just love it when your back sticks to the car seat? I do enjoy summer very much, but the humidity is not ...

Dear Old Dad

Posted 6/18/2010 5:05:00 PM
Here's to all, like myself, who have lost their fathers. Here's to remembering everything they taught us over the years while we had them. Thanks dad for teaching me to be a stand up guy, how to give someone a good firm handshake and look them in the eye. Thanks for showing me how to be generous with the blessings we've been given. Thanks for showing me how to never do anything half baked. Thanks for teaching me to always put my best foot forward and to never give up. Thanks dad for showing me how to always be respectful to others especially women. Thanks for everything dad. I miss you dearly.
To all the dads still with us...happy fathers day. Anyone can father a child,
however it takes a special man to be a dad.
