My son, Austin, doesn't like me to talk about him on the air - unless I clear it with him first. It's funny how this radio thing - and when I do television - doesn't phase him at all because it's all he's ever known. Today, however, without clearance, I am blogging about my guy.
All through his young life he has always made me such a proud Papa. He's respectful, he's kind and has a real good head on his shoulders. I taught him at an early age how to give a good firm handshake, to look someone in the eye when you meet them and to always be respectful - especially to women. I told him that book smarts are great, but without street smarts and common sense they mean nothing. He has both. Impresses me everyday.
My boy found out recently that he has been accepted to Holy Cross, early decision. I think that is pretty darn cool. We all love our kids, and want the best for them. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have such a great young man as my son. I try to tell him as often as possible how proud I am of him. I always tell him I love him, every phone call, every day, every night; and then I always hear music to my ears: "I love you, Dad."
