Just because “Breaking Bad” won all the awards and “Modern Family” won their fifth consecutive Best Comedy award, the Emmys were still far from a snoozefest.

From Billy Eichner’s trademark shouting to the Gwen Stefani’s creative pronunciations, here are the 5 most memorable moments from the 2014 Emmys:

5. Best Moment

Billy Eichner was behind the best bit of the night, bringing “Billy on the Street” to the Nokia Theater. He and host Seth Meyers recorded a special Emmy Edition of his hilarious man on the street series, proving that nobody really cares about the Emmys. For an often stuffy award show, this is proof that the Emmy crowd can let their hair down.

4. Shadiest Speech

Julianna Margulies was able to say so much in so little time when she picked up her award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama. The “Good Wife” actress called out her former co-star, Josh Charles, saying, “I miss you every day. What were you thinking?” But the best part was her subtle way of throwing shade at cable shows: “But truly, this belongs to Robert and Michelle King; all our writers, who never cease to amaze me with 22 episodes a year.”

3. Greatest Tribute

Billy Crystal gave one of the most moving tributes to Robin Williams or any star that we’ve ever seen. The trick? By giving fans permission to grieve as if they knew the late comedian personally, because Robin has truly touched so many lives, including Billy’s. While he may be gone, Billy Crystal reminded us that Robin will live on through so many incredible stories, like the ones he shared on Monday night.

2. Most Controversial Moment

Sofia Vergara is known for her head-turning beauty, but the “Modern Family” comedienne was at the center of a bit of Emmy controversy over a different kind of turning. Vergara stood on top of a spinning pedestal that showed off her body to the crowd, while the Academy president Bruce Rosenblum gave a tongue-in-cheek speech about “always giving the viewer something compelling to watch.”

1. Best Improvisation

Gwen Stefani pulled a John Travolta and announced the Outstanding Variety series winner as something like “Colbort ReporT,” leading Jimmy Fallon to take the stage. “She said it wrong, so it must be a mistake,” the “Tonight Show” host joked. After that, Stephen Colbert began whispering his speech into Fallon’s ear, tricking him into cursing and proving once and for all that they’re still best friends.
