It's been a long time since Smokey Robinson was a bona fide pop star -- but that doesn't mean current pop stars can't give props to the Motown legend.
Jessie J, CeeLo Green, Miguel, Aloe Blacc, John Legend, *NSYNC's JC Chasez, Ledisi and Gary Barlow all appear on Robinson's duets album "Smokey & Friends," which comes out today (August 19).
Several of them also offer verbal pre-ambles to their songs extolling their admiration for Robinson, who tells us he was flattered they were willing to be part of the project:
"Aloe Blacc and Miguel and those young guys like that...I was kind of surprised to be able to work with them. But I was very happy because they're great artists. All those young people on there are great artists, y'know?...
I've only known CeeLo for probably about maybe five, six years. I'd met CeeLo when 'Crazy' first hit, and I've only known him for that time. But the moments that we share together are like we've known each other forever."
The album also features Robinson duets with Elton John, former "American Idol" judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, James Taylor, Mary J. Blige and Sheryl Crow.
"Smokey & Friends" was produced by "American Idol's" Randy Jackson.
