On Tuesday evening, Conan O’Brien heard word of Robin Williams’s passing in time to react.

A clearly shaken Conan shared the news with the studio audience on the TBS late night show, while sitting with his sidekick, Andy Richter and guest Will Arnett (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”).

“This is absolutely shocking and horrifying, and so upsetting on every level. We’re at the end of the show, and it felt like we had to acknowledge… Obviously, we don’t know much yet,” he said. “We know that this has happened, and we’re absolutely stunned, stunned to get this news. And I know that everybody here, we’ve all worked with Robin over the years,” Conan said.

Richter and Arnett also chimed in with their thoughts on Williams’s tragic death.

“He was an amazingly kind and generous person, and it’s got to be a terrible time for his family. Our thoughts go out to them,” Richter said.

“As funny as he was, he’s truly one of the all-time greats. He was even better as a person. He was even more fantastic,” Arnett added. “He was just the loveliest, sweetest, one of the kindest guys that I’ve ever worked with.”

Conan also joined the numerous comedians to react to the news on Twitter:
