Paul Feig hasn’t even officially signed on to direct “Ghostbusters 3,” and he’s already fending off criticism.

Over the weekend, it was reported that the “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat” director would helm the third film in the franchise.

Shortly thereafter, the web went wild with speculation that Feig was plotting a movie around three female Ghostbusters.

He shot back against the backlash Twitter after a nasty write-up in Deadline titled “Film Chauvinist Asks: Do We Want An Estrogen-Powered ‘Ghostbusters?’”

“Interesting how making a movie with men in the lead roles is normal but making a movie with women in the lead roles is a ‘gimmick.’ #its2014,” he wrote, undeterred.

Feig’s next film will reunite him once again with Melissa McCarthy. She’ll star in “Spy,” an undercover comedy co-starring Jason Statham and Rose Byrne.

The original pair of films starred Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis as the titular Ghostbusters.
