The ESPYs were a night of celebration for the sports world’s finest, but there was one honor that stood above the rest.

ESPN’s Stuart Scott, who has been battling a rare form of cancer since 2007, was awarded the 2014 Jimmy V Perseverance Award.

“The best thing I’ve ever done, the best thing I’ll ever do, is be a dad to Taylor and Sydney. I can’t ever give up because I can’t leave my daughters…” he said. “Taylor and Sydney, I love you guys more than I will ever be able to express. You two are my heartbeat. I am standing on this stage here tonight because of you.”

The TV personality, who has presented Jimmy V Award to others in the past, opened up about how at first he didn’t feel worthy of the prestigious award.

Scott also made a video about his cancer battle, which aired shortly before he was introduced by Kiefer Sutherland, the star of his all-time favorite series, “24.”
