Oh, Common, you old softie.

The rapper told VladTV that his 2011 feud with Drake stemmed from his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Serena Williams.

“For me, I think it was an emotional thing. Meaning, I was feeling like at that time it was the Drake-Serena situation. I didn’t know what was going on with that. And I didn’t know if he was throwing shots at me. This is my ex, and we’d kind of gone our separate ways.”

Common added that it was ultimately about more than the tennis star and that he had respect for the “Nothing Was the Same” rapper.

“Unfortunately, the war might have been over a girl, even though at the time I never said that. But it wasn’t totally that,” he told VladTV. “It was more or less like, ‘Man, do you respect me?’ Because I actually like you as an artist.”

Things got started after Drake sent Serena a tweet in August 2011, writing, “I cannot wait to put it on you and make you sweat.......... during our match this weekend.”

Thankfully, it never got physical, and Common continued to compliment Drake, with whom he said he had a face-to-face and quashed the beef.

What do you think of Common’s explanation?
