Reese Witherspoon is on a mission to shed her rom-com star image, and she’s starting with a “Good Lie.”
The first trailer for the “This Means War” star’s latest film, “The Good Lie,” has arrived. Witherspoon plays a single woman who helps Sudanese refugees find work once they arrive Stateside.
The film, which has an October 3 release date, co-stars Corey Stoll (“House of Cards”), along with Sudanese stars Emmanuel Jal, Arnold Oceng and Ger Duany, according to “Variety.”
It’s quite a serious turnaround for Witherspoon, who also recently starred in dramas like “Devil’s Knot” and “Mud.”
With her production company, Witherspoon also optioned the film rights for Cheryl Strayed’s “Wild,” and she will also play Strayed in the adaptation.
The movie comes from the executive producer of “The Blind Side,” which notably garnered Sandra Bullock – also then in a rom-com rut – an Oscar.
