With so many movies being released throughout the year, it can be hard to keep track. To help, check out our preview of the movies that are opening this weekend:
“22 Jump Street”: If you’re worried that the sequel can’t live up to the original, just remember that this is the team that brought you the amazing reboot you couldn’t imagine would be good, let alone great. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are back – this time in college – to make another drug bust. Sadly, Brie Larson is not in the film, but “Greek” star Amber Stevens is a love interest for Jonah’s Schmidt. Rated R.
“How to Train Your Dragon 2”: Summer tends to be sequel-heavy, but it’s not often that two good ones come in one month, let alone one weekend. But this animated follow-up, which promises to tell the tale of Hiccup’s (Jay Baruchel) long-dead mother, proves that DreamWorks is stepping up its game against animated juggernaut Pixar. Kristen Wiig, Craig Ferguson and Jonah Hill also star. Rated PG.
“The Rover”: This Australian set drama has been hailed as a possible career reset for Robert Pattinson, who has laid low since “The Twilight Saga” came to an end. But he’s back opposite Guy Pearce as a wounded man who tries to survive in the Australian outback. This is out in limited release, but for RobPat fans, it might be worth the trip. Rated R.
