“American Idol” alum Katharine McPhee is making her split from Nick Cokas official.
The singer-actress filed for divorce from her husband after six years, and she made the announcement in a statement to “People.”
“The two have an amicable relationship and will remain friends,” the statement reads (via “People”). “They ask that people respect their privacy during this time.”
McPhee’s relationship struggles became public last year after she was photographed with “Smash” director Michael Morris, who is also married.
Morris is still with his wife, “In Plain Sight” star Mary McCormack, but the statement suggests McPhee and Cokas have been separated for the past year.
Though “Smash” was cancelled after two seasons, in 2013, McPhee will be back on TV next season.
Her new CBS series, in which she plays a woman who helps a group of socially awkward geniuses interact deal with “life outside the laboratory,” will bow on Monday nights this fall. Robert Patrick and Elyes Gabel also star.
