Insurgent” is about to get a little “Help” from an Oscar winner.

Octavia Spencer has been cast in the “Divergent” sequel, which is due out next spring, according to Deadline.

She’ll play Johanna, the Amity faction’s leader, a role that was originated at the end of the “Divergent” novel but didn’t make the cut in the movie.

Amity is the faction known for seeking peace, and it’s a sort of safe zone for Tris (Shailene Woodley) and the other rebels as they regroup to take down the Erudite and their leader, Jeanine (Kate Winslet).

“Insurgent” is the latest high-profile project from Spencer, a longtime character actress who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her part in 2011’s “The Help.”

This fall, she’ll star in FOX’s “Red Band Society,” which Deadline describes as “a coming-of-age drama with humor set at a big-city hospital.”

“Insurgent” will reach theaters on March 20, 2015. What do you think of the casting news?
