“War has already begun.”

The first trailer for “Dawn,” the sequel to 2011’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” is out now, and it’s clear that this is no longer the world James Franco’s Will Rodman was living in.

Quite literally, perhaps, as Franco is only spotted briefly in a video from long ago, and he might not have made it out alive in the four years that have passed.

Instead, the humans are represented by new stars Gary Oldman, Keri Russell (“The Americans”) and Australian actor Jason Clarke (“Zero Dark Thirty”).

According to the trailer’s description, Caesar (Andy Serkis) is ruling the apes during a period of tentative peace between the human survivors and the “genetically evolved apes,” but war is certainly coming.

Though she remains somewhat mysterious, Judy Greer will play female ape Cornelia in the movie.

“Dawn” will be released in theaters this July. Has the rebooted franchise lived up to your expectations based on the classics from the ‘60s and ‘70s?
