The actress adorably freaked out at the prospect of chopping off her long locks for “The Fault in Our Stars,” in which she plays a teenage girl living with cancer.

MTV News was on the scene for the big unveiling, as Shailene covered her face throughout most of “The Cut.”

“I have to see it, I have to see it, I might cry so hard, you guys,” she said after the first chunk was lopped off.

Changing her tune, as more and more came off, she refused to see what she looked like before it was over: “I just can’t look yet. Can’t look yet… I still haven’t looked. I’m so afraid to look!”

When all was said and done, she exclaimed that she loved it, stopping to pose for a picture post-snip.
