Channing Tatum might be getting his “mutant” on.
“Entertainment Weekly” reports that the in-demand actor could join another major franchise, playing Gambit in a new “X-Men” spinoff.
Tatum revealed that he had spoken to one of the producers about playing the role in a potential film.
While the casting is not a done deal, the talks confirm what “EW” previously reported, which is that the “X” team is looking to expand their world with potential standalone films for Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique and the as-yet-uncast Gambit, among others.
At present, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is the only “X-Men” star spin off from the main franchise, and a third film built around the character is in the works. Taylor Kitsch previously played Gambit in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
Tatum is an intergalactic space warrior in this summer’s “Jupiter Ascending,” so playing a mutant shouldn’t be too much of a stretch.
Before any of this can come to pass, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” will hit theaters on May 23. Which X-Men character would you most like to see get their own spinoff?
