“Divergent” is taking another page out of Katniss Everdeen’s book.
Deadline reports that the third novel, “Allegiant,” will be split into two films, not unlike Lionsgate's other properties, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.”
“Veronica Roth brings her captivating story to a masterful conclusion in ‘Allegiant,’ a rich, action-packed book with material that is ideally suited to two strong and fulfilling movies,” Lionsgate Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger said in a statement (via Deadline).
“Allegiant Part 1” will stick to the previously-announced March 18, 2016 release, with “Part 2” following on March 24, 2017.
The Shailene Woodley-led franchise got off to a great start with “Divergent,” which has earned more than $139 million across the world in just three weeks.
