While Marvel continues to shuffle their feet on a Black Widow movie, a female-led superhero film might not be too far off.
“Entertainment Weekly” reports that the “X-Men” team is currently developing spinoff films for several of their characters, namely Mystique.
Helping things is like the fact that the character is played by Jennifer Lawrence, the star who proved that she could anchor a franchise (“The Hunger Games”) and win an Oscar (“Silver Linings Playbook”).
“I love what Jen Lawrence has done with [Mystique], and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much opportunity if you were to follow her solo.”
Other proposed side films include Gambit and Deadpool, along with another previously announced Wolverine solo movie.
Hollywood has been notoriously slow when it comes to developing superhero tentpole films around women, with Halle Berry’s “Catwoman” and Jennifer Garner’s “Elektra” among the few – albeit failed – attempts.
Aside from continued talk of a Black Widow feature, the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in the upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel prompted buzz as well.
