Samantha Harris is speaking out about her decision to undergo a double mastectomy.
“People” reports that the former “Dancing with the Stars” host was diagnosed with breast cancer after discovering a lump last fall.
Though she was offered two different treatment options, Harris chose the mastectomy route after weighing her options.
“I was sick of feeling the way that I did in the days after the diagnosis. I knew I needed to take control,” she told “People,” adding that she feels “so much calmer” after making the decision.
According to CBS News, Harris, 40, has two daughters and is optimistic about her diagnosis, saying, “I will be here to pan my daughters’ weddings and they better like the dress I pick.”
The TV personality served as Tom Bergeron’s “DWTS” co-host for several cycles beginning in 2006, before she left and was replaced by Brooke Burke-Charvet, who herself was let go just before season 18.
Harris was also a regular contributor on “Entertainment Tonight” until 2010.
