CBS is dealing with the Mother of all controversies today.
On Monday night, “How I Met Your Mother” aired its series finale, coming to a close after 208 episodes. In the end, fans were right in guessing that the Mother was in fact dead the whole time, and many are not too pleased.
In a scene filmed early on in the show’s run, Ted (Josh Radnor) tells his children, played by Lyndsy Fonseca (“Nikita”) and David Henrie (“Wizards of Waverly Place”), the story of how he met their mother.
Spoiler warning: But when his lengthy tale concludes, they call him out for truly telling a story about how much he likes their Aunt Robin (Cobie Smulders), who Ted started falling for in the pilot episode.
The kids give Ted permission, considering that their mother – whose name is revealed to be Tracy McConnell – had passed away six years ago.
"We did a finale about life's twists and turns and that is not always what happens...but THANKS!" co-creator Craig Thomas tweeted. "Seriously - no matter what you thought of tonight, THANK YOU...you were with us. We love you."
