Though the broadcast networks haven’t had much success launching a new reality hit since “The Voice” in 2011, all that could change with FOX’s latest offering.
In what could spell breakout success, the network will launch “I Wanna Marry ‘Harry’” this summer. The concept is simple: a group of 12 American women will vie for the heart of a man they believe is Prince Harry.
In reality, he is an average British man given “the royal treatment and an upper crust makeover” before taking the women on a series of romantic dates, according to “Entertainment Weekly.”
As “EW” points out, the duping-the-contestants twist is reminiscent of “Joe Millionaire,” which launched a genre that flamed out fast, spawning series like “My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance” (also on FOX) and “The Joe Schmo Show.”
The series comes after royal lookalikes have become increasingly common. Just this week, a series of “Royal selfies” featuring faux versions of Prince William, Kate Middleton and even the Queen went viral.
“I Wanna Marry ‘Harry’” will debut on Tuesday, May 27 at 8pm. What do you think of the concept?
