With so many movies being released throughout the year, it can be hard to keep track. To help, check out our preview of the movies that are opening this weekend:
“Divergent”: Shailene Woodley stars in this highly-anticipated young adult adaptation about Tris, a young girl in near-future Chicago. She learns that she is Divergent, meaning she does not fall into one of their society’s highly-divided factions. Tris must face the trials of her new community while trying to stay under the radar. Per our review, “Like many young adult adaptations before it, the film will live and die by its young fan base, but thankfully ‘Divergent’ doesn’t rest on its laurels.” Rated PG-13.
“Muppets Most Wanted”: The furry friends return in a sequel to “The Muppets” reboot, this time co-starring in a global caper. When Kermit’s criminal doppelganger frames him for a crime, the Muppets find themselves in a sticky situation. Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey and “Modern Family” fan fave Ty Burrell co-star, though the Muppets clearly steal the show. Rated PG.
“Nymphomaniac: Vol. 1”: Known by some as the film whose premiere featured Shia LaBeouf with a paper bag on his head, Lars von Trier’s first of two “Nymphomaniac” volumes stars Charlotte Gainsbourg as a self-described nymphomaniac who is rescued from an assault by a man (Stellan Skarsgard). Christian Slater, Uma Thurman and LaBeouf also star in the sure-to-be controversial project. In limited release, rated NC-17. Warning: NSFW.
