BET wants more “Being Mary Jane.”
The cable announced this week that the Gabrielle Union-led drama will return for a second season, according to the “Deadline.”
The no-brainer renewal comes after the series earned its highest ratings to date for its season finale event on Tuesday.
“Mary Jane” also has the honor of being the top-rated new original scripted show on basic cable in the core demographic.
Union stars as a newscaster attempting to juggle her career, her family and her love life in the drama, which also stars Lisa Vidal, Raven Goodwin, Richard Roundtree, Margaret Avery and Richard Brooks.
Production on the show’s second season is expected to begin in the spring. Originally launching last year with a two-hour TV movie, the show comes from “Girlfriends” and “The Game” creator Mara Brock Akil.
