Happy birthday to pop icon Rihanna, who celebrates her 26th birthday today!
Born in Saint Michaels, Barbados, Robyn Rihanna Fenty always enjoyed singing. Starting from a young age, she sang for friends and family and even won a beauty pageant after singing a cover of Mariah Carey’s “Hero.”
After being discovered by record producer Evan Rogers while he was on vacation, Rihanna quickly recorded a few demos and signed with Def Jam Records, headed by Jay Z. From there, she released her first album, “Music from the Sun” and had immediate success with her single “Pon de Replay.”
Her third record, “Good Girl Gone Bad,” catapulted her to international stardom, featuring multiple top 10 hits, including “Umbrella,” “Shut Up and Drive” and “Don’t Stop the Music.”
Since 2009, Rihanna has been nothing if not prolific, releasing a new album every year until 2013. Having spent last year touring and resting up, there are big things to come from the pop star this year. With her 8th studio album reportedly in the works, she’s already off to a great start.
Last month, RiRi was featured on Shakira’s new single “Can’t Remember to Forget You.” The song reached no. 15 on the Hot 100, while the music video has already received more than 130 million views on YouTube.
Let’s hope 2014 is productive for the birthday girl and she continues with her success!
