One day before Ellen Page took the stage at a Human Rights Campaign event and came out as lesbian, the actress signed on for a new drama called “Freeheld.”
The indie film starring Page and Julianne Moore, is inspired by a real-life lesbian couple “whose world is shattered when Laurel (Moore) becomes terminally ill and government officials prevent her from assigning her pension benefits to Stacie (Page),” “The Wrap” reports.
The “Juno” star attended the HRC’s Time to Thrive Conference to LGBT teens, where she opened up about her coming out journey.
“I suffered for years because I was scared to be out,” she said (via NBC News). “My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationship suffered.”
Page will next appear in “X-Men: Days of Future Past” later this spring. Watch her full speech and share your thoughts in the comments below!
