It pays to have friends in high places, and nobody knows that more than former “Saturday Night Live” star Fred Armisen.

Armisen is set to join “Late Night with Seth Meyers” later this month, but not in a comedic role. Instead, the multi-hyphenate will lead the show’s band.

Meyers announced the news himself, sharing a group photo of the 8G Band:

The former “SNL” writer added, “Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he’s off shooting Portlandia.”

“Portlandia,” of course, is Armisen’s hit IFC series, which returns for a fourth season on February 27. Fans of the comedian might know that he was a drummer even before he joined the late night sketch show.

In fact, Armisen appeared in a musical capacity on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” doing impressions of other famous drummers.

“Late Night” will bow on Monday, February 24, following the Olympics. Are you surprised that Fred Armisen will lead the “Late Night” band? Weigh in below!
