Matt Damon has broken his silence on the death of his “Talented Mr. Ripley” co-star, Philip Seymour Hoffman.

In a Reddit AMA, the “Monuments Men” actor opened up about the loss of his friend, with whom he said he was “pretty close.”

“We worked together a long time ago and I would see him here and there, all over the place,” he said. “… I saw him just last year, we were working on ‘Monuments Men’ and had dinner with him. The last time I saw him, I took my oldest daughter to ‘The Hunger Games’ premiere in LA and we had a chat before the movie started. It’s just incredibly weird that he’s not around anymore.”

Hoffman was laid to rest in New York on Friday, with his partner and their three children in attendance, according to ABC News.

Other attendees to the ceremony at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola included Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams, Amy Adams, Ethan Hawke, Joaquin Phoenix and Cate Blanchett.
