Frozen” has quickly become one of the highest-grossing animated movies of all time and was hailed upon its release as a new Disney classic.

But the star of “Frozen,” Kristen Bell, tells BuzzFeed attributes the success of the project to the film’s fresh approach to female characters.”

Beyond that, the “Veronica Mars” actress says the script she first signed on for was very different from what actually came to be.

“It was meant to be a story between these two girls, but we scrapped the entire script 12 months in,” she said. “My character initially was written very, what I would call, prissy. She was very girly [and] I kind of pushed more for something weirder. Something different. Something more unique and unlike anything we’d seen before.”

Contrary to being lumped in with former Disney hits like “The Little Mermaid” and “Cinderella,” Bell added that modern girls and women are looking for more than love, which is reflected in the movie’s ending.

“Newsflash! Girls aren’t just looking for husbands anymore!” she said. “They care about enriching their lives and being part of a larger community and being nice to people. All of those ideas went into re-writing this script, so when I read the final product, it was thrilling.”
