Teresa and Joe Giudice seem to be trying the divide-and-conquer method for overcoming their current legal situation.
According to “People,” court documents reveal that the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” couple has asked for separate trials on the 41-count indictment on fraud charges this month.
The reasoning is that Joe is insisting that his wife had no knowledge of the alleged fraud and will testify to that if they are allowed separate trials.
“Should the trials be severed, Mr. Giudice has affirmed his willingness to testify as to Teresa’s involvement in the alleged criminal activity,” the court doc says (via “People”). “He would be unable to do so in a joint trial wherein his Fifth Amendment rights are invoked.”
The pair is expected to make their next court appearance on April 9, so a decision will likely be made before this time.
Production on season six of “RHONY” is underway and Teresa is expected to be among the returning cast.
