Fans of “The Newsroom” will be happy to know that the HBO series will return for a third this year -- but there's a catch.
Per the official press release, the Jeff Daniels-led series will begin production on the show's final season this spring for a fall debut, though little else is known regarding the season's arc.
“‘The Newsroom’ is classic Aaron Sorkin – smart, riveting and thought-provoking,” HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo said. “I’m sure this farewell season will be one to remember.”
The drama series, for which Daniels recently won a Best Actor Emmy Award, also stars Emily Mortimer, Olivia Munn, Sam Waterston and Alison Pill.
HBO seems to be cleaning house in the drama category this year, with both “True Blood” and “Boardwalk Empire” also coming to an end in 2014.
In its place, the pay cable network will debut a new drama adapted from the bestselling “The Leftovers” this summer, starring Justin Theroux as one of a group of survivors on Earth after the Rapture.
