Following the public outcry, the powers that be at “Saturday Night Live” confirmed the casting of Sasheer Zamata, their first black female cast mate in six years.
Zamata, an Upright Citizens Brigade alum, will join the show on January 18, when Drake is scheduled to host and serve as musical guest on the late night sketch series, according to CNN.
The news that she will fill the void left by Maya Rudolph’s departure comes after Kenan Thompson announced last year that he would no longer dress in drag to play the characters.
The situation was spoofed a bit when “Scandal” actress Kerry Washington guest hosted in the fall, in an opening sketch in which she was forced to repeatedly leave the room for quick-changes to portray the First Lady, Oprah and more.
In other “SNL” news, Jonah Hill will be back for his third turn as guest host on the January 25 installment.
Variety reports that “The Wolf of Wall Street” star will be joined by musical guests Bastille.
