Despite sinking ratings in its third season, Simon Cowell sounds pretty confident that “The X Factor” will return on FOX next fall.
“The show will be back next season,” he said on a conference call this week (via “Entertainment Weekly”).
While Cowell is sure the show will be back, he did offer that it might return in a slightly different format, possibly akin to what the network did with “So You Think You Can Dance.”
One likely scenario is that the show will be cut down to two hours a week, not unlike the change ABC made with “Dancing with the Stars” during its most recent season.
Though she show might have “a different kind of role,” Cowell added that he and FOX executives “haven’t discussed that yet.”
The show has already undergone a number of changes in its judging panel, with only Cowell and Demi Lovato returning as judges this season. The duo was joined by new judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio.
“The X Factor” will air its two-night season finale beginning Wednesday, December 18 at 8pm.
