Nearly a decade after taking on the aliens in “War of the Worlds,” Tom Cruise is taking another stab at saving the world in “Edge of Tomorrow.”

According to Warner Bros.’ official synopsis for the movie, which is due out next June, Cruise stars as Lt. Col. Bill Cage, who is killed on his first combat mission.

Yet his story is not over, as he is “inexplicably thrown into a time loop – forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again… and again.”

In order the change the outcome of the battle, Cage must work with a Special Forces warrior played by Emily Blunt to take down the alien enemy.

Though the film will not be released for several months, it may be familiar to those who are up to speed on Cruise’s libel lawsuit.

The actor filmed both “Edge” and “Oblivion” shortly after his split from Katie Holmes, during which time Bauer publishing claimed that he had “abandoned” his daughter, Suri. He has since filed a $50 million suit against the company.
