Home Alone”: Holiday classic or story of a child sociopath?

That’s the question posed in a viral video by Screen Junkies as part of their Honest Trailers series.

Of course, the 1990 John Hughes classic starred Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, who fends off two bungling burglars in their attempt to rob his home after being left alone on Christmas.

The recut trailer shows Kevin torturing the two thieves, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, calling it “one of the most violent kids’ movies ever made” and “one part ‘Ferris Bueller,’ one part ‘Saw.’”

The preview also takes note of his family’s treatment of an eight-year-old boy and the robbers’ obsession with just one house.

Either way, it seems the public has already spoken. Not only has the film grossed more than $475 million worldwide at the box office upon his release, but it continues to be a perennial holiday favorite.
